Otaku Son is an unknown quantity at this point.
Default Just Shut Up, Already!

I'm sure everyone has encountered these people: loud, noisy, inconsiderate assholes that just don't know they're bothering everyone else who's around them. Right now, as I'm waiting to go to one of my interviews, I have one of these people being me playing some fucking loud-as-hell game on their cell phone, and it's bothering now only myself but everyone else around him, visibly. And he just can't take a hint that he's pissing everyone off, despite how loudly and hard I'm hitting the keyboard to override his noise.

Then you have people talking on their cell phones, yelling for the most absurd and unknown reason in the whole world. And then you have the hall gossipers, with their annoying voices just spewing out as many words per minute as I can type. Anyone else have any problems with people who just don't know what "STFU" means?

Now, I mean no offense, but I just have got that itch for ironic sarcasm. But, for another time, another place.

Personally, I don't really care, I sit through it, and probally if I was using a laptop in the waiting room someone is bound to be annoyed by my fast, erratic typing. Everyone can be annoyed by anything. Nervousness, anticipation, and anxiety just amplify this, possibly in your case. Just tell the man, if its worth the trouble, to turn down the volume on his cell phone. Simple, no?

I have one of those cell phone people on my bus to work, though he usually doesn't talk on it much, when he does it becomes annoying quickly. I don't do anything about it because i dont what to be like him and annoy others.

ironic sarcasm? I thought all sarcasm was ironic, or did you mean something else.

The irony is rather striking. It's almost too perfect.

Sometimes, I think if people would stop, realize what they're saying or doing, look at the reactions they're getting, consider what it would be like to be on the receiving end of what's being said or done, and then think twice before saying or doing them, then it wouldn't be such a problem.

However, even with the gentlest of hints, the possibility remains that some people just won't figure it out. At that point, Otaku, what do you recommend as the best course of action?

Would you believe people actually prefered my typing over his cell phone? Namely, since all of us were on computers, and he was the only one sitting on the floor, playing with his cell phone. I mean, at least people weren't looking over their shoulders to stare at me, muttering, "Oh, god, shut up!" under their breath.

And, Croteam6, I was actually planning to make a separate thread about dealing with problems. So, you can seek the answer there.

Well, thankfully I'm one of those people blessed with near infinite patience.

Therefore, I ignore them. And ignore them. If they say something really stupid, or break my patience, I just tell them in a very cold voice to be quieter or to stop what they're doing.

Once, I was at the movie theatre (theater?) when someone's cell phone rang. Almost immediatly the guy behind the called viewer grabbed the cell phone away and threw at at the nearest wall, shattering it. Odds are there was an anger management lawsuit, but things would be better if we saw more cell phone chuckers and less cell phones. Agreed?

I'd do that when the guy actually answers and talks on his cell phone. And speaking of which...

I actually have a problem with telling people of if they talk during a movie. I tend to let my anger build. When I finally do say something, it usually comes out without thought and in a really pissed tone since at that moment I'm likely to feel like starting a good old-fashioned amok run. I have yet to determine if this lowers or raises the effectivity.

Example 1: Road to Perdition with four guys who keep talking bullshit. Near the end I snap and call out "Will you shut up now!". Helped a great deal.

Example 2: Wrong Turn with about ten people behind me. Different approach: when it became clear they wouldn't shut up I politely asked for silence. The second time I asked impolitely. The third time I snapped, again, and had the full intent to stop the movie (I worked in that particular theater) and throw them out if I heard one more word. I didn't.

Example 3: Spider-Man 2. Six guys. Apparently the phrase "Will you shut the fuck up!" isn't as effective as one might assume. Had I had a weapon, I would've used it for the good of mankind.

Fun fact: usually you can see who's going to be trouble. I think in the future I will keep a lookout for these people before the movie and keep in mind where their car is parked. It's not as if you can't leave briefly during the movie.

I tend to ignore people who just keep talking. Or I might tell them to shut the fuck up. You've got about an 80-20 chance, respectively.
