Torchwood
I can't believe no-one has put this up yet!
I just saw the first two episodes tonight (it started on Sunday but I missed it then), and so far it's looking pretty good. Darker than Who, with much added swearing and a LOT of sex, especially the second episode! Also liking the fact that Captain Jack's invincible, due to him having died and then be resurrected by Rose. So, what does everyone else think? Any thoughts? Please remember spoiler tags.

First episode was never going to be great, first episodes never are. They're always going to be slower, setting up the characters. It was all right regrading that. 6.5/10
Second episode: What the fuck was that? It made relatively no sence, and one of the worst 50 minutes I spent watching TV. 2/10 Overall, I'll watch another episode, see if gets any better. I'm doubtful though. It's no wonder why it's being shown on BBC3....

Not terrible, but it wasn't really outstanding. It'd help if they didn't rub it in that this show's more gory than dr.who every 5 seconds. On the other hand captain jack's back! yay! The characters are good. 'cept for the scientist jerk. He's annoying.
So yeah. Good show. Just not as good as dr.who. But what is?

Torchwood..? Is this a BBC thing only? I haven't heard of it over here in the 'States. Do tell what this new show is. I'm guessing it's a spinoff of whatever this whole "Torchwood" thing is in the David Tennant era Doctor Who? (We're only at episode four over here in the US. Torchwood has been mentioned once or twice, but they haven't given us any clues or anything yet.)

Well, I really like it. As a spin-off it works well, having it's own identity instead of just being a Who remake and it's good fun and enjoyable to watch. The third episode was particularly good for turning what assumptions you already make about some of the characters on its head, especially making one who up until then was quite annoying much more interesting (being Owen, the 'scientist jerk').
Fourth episode looks like it could be really good too. It feels like they're actually using the fact it isn't aimed at children to write good scripts (at least to me), instead of just revelling in it. Yes there's harsh language and sex and such, but it isn't just thrown in there because they can. It feels (to me at least) quite believable. And I think they've done a good job of developing new character's too, without them being too dull or clones of older characters (even Jack has changed quite a lot, you can see how the events of Who rubbed off on him). So I really like it. But suddenly I feel in a minority, judging by the posts here...

Maybe I'd like it more if I got to see it more often. Having no tv has drawbacks. But still, they do seem to go a bit overboard. They can do the gory stuff and the sex stuff 'cuase it's past the water gate, but that doesn't mean they should fill every second of screen time with it.

Just saw ep three a few hours ago and it's starting to look pretty good. Owen wasn't as much of a dick in this one at least!
Next ep looks like it will be the best so far though, you know, 'cos it's got Cybermen in it. Or Cyberwomen at least!

The sex monster I can see as pushing it a bit, but it made for an interesting (if used before in some places) creature and the idea of possession worked for some good character moments too (like Gwen reminding them all it's about saving a girl's life, not the alien). I didn't find it particularly excessive at all, really. Just on the right level. It could have been a lot worse.

I enjoyed it, I think it has potential. The main two things I don't like are the craptastic torchwood van thing [what is it with the blue LEDs on the windscreen?] and the last thing is the base is nothing like the other one [does the Welsh branch have no budget?].
As to our American cousins just wait and all will become clear.
