Spider-man has been missing in New York for several weeks now and crime has reached an all-time high as criminals have become more confident in pulling off crimes now that the web-slinger is gone. The next morning the town wakes up to read in their edition of The Daily Bugle that there was a large-scale prison break that was staged at The Raft on Ryker's Island. The Raft is known to be the prison all superhuman criminals and with Ryker's Island being just off the coast of New York City, there was no doubt that the criminals were already loose in the city.
