Default Presidential Candidates - 2008

So, here is my first thread this "active" cycle.

Of the current Presidential Candidates, which one(s):
*Do you favor?
*Are you rabidly against?
*Are you still unsure of policy-wise?
*Do you just not like, even if it's for some stupid reason?

If any fall under this, do any Presidential Candidates seem like they could become the Greatest President? If so, why do you say that? (ie stature, policy, looks like a Pres., etc.)

I'm going to lead off by saying that without a doubt, I'll never vote McCain. I don't like him, and it's for a stupid reason, but that reason is enough for me to never vote for him. I believe he looks too much like the Master's Professor Yana incarnation.

I won't vote Guilliani, because (as far as I can tell) the only thing he seems to think is good about him is that he was mayor of New York in 9/11. Quite frankly, if that is the best, he's not fit for office. You can't run the nation off of a policy that consists of "Blah blah blah 9/11 blah blah terrorists blah blah blah".

So far, the only candidate I would even remotely consider voting for is that one guy whose name I can't remember. Edit: I remembered his name. It's Obama. Anyway, I've watched him speak a couple times and he was the only one who seemed remotely honest. The rest would either die in office or kill everyone in the country by taking what Bush has done and further enraging everyone in the world. I think the world leaders are okay with Bush, simply because he's so...single-minded in what he wants to do, which means that unless you're a middle-eastern country with large oil fields with a leader of questionable ethics and aren't Saudi Arabia, you're off the hook.

So, what are your thoughts?

Obama for me. I'd like to see the end of the Bush-Clinton dynasty that has led America since 1988.

But god help me if the republicans (which I am ironically a party member of.) win again. I'm not sure what I'll do, never read or acknowledge the news again, become a monk in a faraway place or maybe just visit england and then never return home.

I'm for Obama as well, but the fact that he hasn't confronted Hillary by this point makes me think he isn't going to get the nod. And even if he does get it, I'm worried about him in the election, as Kerry proved, non-confrontation isn't a winning strategy.

On the Republican side, I don't trust any of them. It might be just because they're trying to win over the Republican base, but all the legitimate contenders are advocating a continuation of the Bush Presidency, with only minor tweaks. Frankly, there's just way too much playing to the base for any of these guys to win, and for that I blame Fox News/Right Wing talk radio.

Despite the fact that Bush is so unpopular, they've but him on a pedestal as what every Republican should be. They're so entrenched, they can't bring themselves to change message. So the base won't except anything else, but in the full election that kind of thinking won't fly.

I rank them basically from "exceptionally bad" to "relatively less bad."

from least-bad to most bad it's something like 1. Edwards 2. Obama 3. Clinton 4. Mitt Romney 5. Fred Thompson 6. Giuliani.

I'm not actually sure that Hillary Clinton shouldn't rank lower. It's like where Giuliani's platform seems to be "Elect Me And I Will Kill Many Arabs!!!" Clinton's platform seems to be "Elect Me And I Will Kill Many Arabs, And Also I Am A Woman!!!!!" Also I read she's adopted one of the Republicans' perennial "kill social security by pretending to 'save' it" plans, so I can't even believe she's well-intentioned anymore.

Edwards and Obama have decent positions; they're just so depressingly milquetoast and wishy-washy about them. Also I still have fairly fresh memories of Edwards in the 2004 VP debate getting seized in Dick Cheney's large and muscular jaws and gnawed on like a chewtoy.

Mostly I'm just crossing my fingers for a Howard Dean or somebody to turn up somewhere and actually convince me to give a shit but I'm fairly aware that I'm kidding myself.

I'm sort of liking Romney, but some of his major policies worry me a lot.

I think Bill Richardson would make a fantastic vice president, due to his diplomatic ability. He's the guy that negotiated the successful disarmament agreements with Iraq and North Korea under Clinton (they only failed under Bush because Bush completely disregarded them). I don't think he has some of the other qualities I'd like to see in the number 1 position, most of it intangible. I wish we could elect 2 presidents this time around. I like Ron Paul's foreign policy- get out of everywhere and don't start any wars unless Congress deems it absolutely necessary, but I hate pretty much every inch of his domestic policy- burn it all down. I like Edwards domestically more than I like the others. I don't really like anybody hands down right now, they all seem sub par. Maybe if McCain 2000 entered the race, or maybe Nobel laureate Albert Gore.

Edit, and btw, what's the name of that other "maverick" Republican senator? The one that just either quit or announced he wasn't going to run for office again despite not being plagued by scandal? Not living in the States makes it a little harder to follow all of the politics. What I've seen of him reminds me a bit of McCain 2000 and I'd like to look into him a little more. Chuck something or other...?

Howard Dean, ha. Bukakis ended him a long time ago.

Obama for me, I think if he is elected his lack of political experience will become blindingly apparent and America may realize that the bigger the asshole the better they are at ruling the world.

Plus he has more charisma than every actor born after John Wayne collectively.

Bwah? If you can find any linkage, I've got to see it.

I'm voting for Thompson. His experience as head of air traffic control in Die Hard 2 trumps anything Clinton has ever and will ever do.
