Man, Fifth gets to take credit for what I said earlier in the thread. What a raw deal.

Yeah, they're planning a netbook version. In fact, a Microsoft engineer came on stage at a presentation running Windows 7 on his netbook (an Ideapad S10, I think) and said as much.

This may have been mentioned earlier in the thread, but I'm not feeling like reading through every single page. I didn't see it on the Wiki page either.

As I plan on building a new PC this summer, I suppose Windows 7 won't be out by then? I heard something like 2010, which is slightly annoying. It means I most likely have to buy Windows Vista for about a year, then probably switch to Windows 7 from the looks of it, thus paying for two operating systems.

Everyone seems to expect it to come late '09 to early '10. So, yeah, probably won't be out this summer.

they're hoping to have it out late summer/early fall so it can ship on this years christmas computers. instead of buying vista, you can just use the beta and upgrade from that when it comes out. saves you some money since the beta is free.

That might be a bit of a stretch... It's a beta after all, and it's not advisable to use betas on main rigs. For instance, for a while there was an issue with mp3's getting mangled (fixed now, thankfully).
