I don't understand how anyone can read that testimony and think this 'indictment' was anything more than a sick joke.

It was perfectly coherent. It was just the prosecutor coherently arguing that the defendant is a great guy and should never have to face trial for what happened.

Like he was literally playing the defense attorney while, ostensibly, being titled prosecutor.

I mean, I had read some of the witness testimony the other day posted elsewhere and it had made me kinda questionable because what had been posted was backing up the status quo, but then you see that and it's like, well if the prosecutor was acting as defense can we even trust witness testimony? --Not really. They're coached by the lawyers for whom they are testifying usually.

Can we trust ANY of the evidence when the system is so obviously invested in making sure Wilson is not only judged innocent, but never even has to face trial? Nope.

At this point, even if they decided to attempt at indictment again (can they even do that?), he went to trial, and was deemed innocent on weight of evidence I would be EXCEPTIONALLY doubtful because how can I trust, literally, any evidence handled or presented by the state when this is how they handle their indictment trial?

How can anyone?

At this point it shouldn't even matter how you feel about cops, or anything else. If you care at all about the justice system as a whole you should be fucking LIVID about this. There's really no grey area to be occupied, anymore, if there even was at all.

Edit: At this point I don't even know what can be done to 'fix' this situation. I guess getting McCulloch disbarred is step one, though.

EDIT: Although, his story before being arrested wasn't entirely credible either. He says Brown was shot in the back. The autopsy shows he wasn't shot in the back. I think the camera footage shows he was in the store during the alleged robbery, which he doesn't mention in the interview. Very possible he was hiding his involvement in the robbery before he was arrested for it... But we don't know. And we'll probably never know, because there won't be a trial in which this evidence and all the rest would have been presented, examined and picked apart. In any reasonable situation, there would have been a trial. Wilson should be on trial. I am angry about this, though I don't express it in my responses. I'm picking at nits here I know. But I am overall, very angry about this.

I'm usually not super into more surveillance but hey since they're public servants anyway, how about this:

- All police officers have to wear bodycams when on duty.

- The footage of the bodycams can be pulled and assessed by a third-party committee/council of some kind when shit like this goes down.

As for the specifics of this scandal there's been so much back and forth I don't even know what happened anymore. I wasn't there. But the grand jury does seem like a farce from reading various news articles, and some of the transcript.

On top-level abstraction, I think civilization and soceities do need policing forces (at least where we are and will be technologically and for a long time), but it's clear they are not well-run in a lot of cases. There's just a lot of us vs. them, and in the cases of the best cops, you find they are well known community leaders who actually care about the place they serve and protect, and have empathy and shit. There probably needs to be more third-party/civilian oversight of these public servants. However, as the grip of our surveillance states increases, so too will police forces continue to militarize, since they are the front-line pawns of said state.

As for the "if you're a cop and you see this stuff happening and you don't quit" well that's pretty stupid, short-sighted logic that takes into account nothing of what it's like to be a human being in the world today. Limp-dicked reactionism?
