I don't know either. One of the defs for it is "a rib or rim" so I'm assuming that's what he's going for. The rib/rim of Getsuga Tensho.

its just kanji for Ban. Its connection with manji is that its a symbol of death, finality. And if you remember way back to naming of the releases, bankai means final release.
