As for Sithdarth's posts, the first time I skimmed through them, paid very little attention, then went on as usual. As the debate about his math started, I went back and read through them, that way I knew what the hell we were talking about, at least to some degree. And for trusting Sithdarth, I don't. His whole list could be contrived from people he knows is not his alignment, keeping his potential teammates off the chopping block. Or there is the logic that Newb came up with back here: Quote:
Edit: It should be noted that I feel that way (bolded) about everyone in Mafia games. Not just Sithdarth.

Honestly, if it would have pointed the finger at anyone else I would have paid it much less attention. But, it doesn't. Edit: Here is where he unvoted me. Quote:

There is a good point that Sithdarth's math only works if we assume he picked randomly.
If he was mafia and purposefully choose people not in his mafia then we owuld be in trouble. But there are 3 mafia so we would still be working towards the other mafia! Huzzah! And I did actually read his math and it checks out. I didn't actually calculate it but the theory is fine and the numbers looked about right. The important thing about it is it all essentially random today but will provide us valuable information days 2 and 3, which is more than a random vote not will provide. The math accidently didn't point to anyone at all. I just set it up made sure it worked and then randomly picked someone for the hell of it; more or less.

Also, remember this is probability and as such there is never a guarantee in that its all about percentages and possibilities. As such the math is simply a last resort when I have no other way to decide on who to vote for. I'd much rather go by actions and reactions in the thread. Oh and again now that I've lain out why it works anyone is free to use the system by themselves if they want. Its merely a matter of using a random number generator to pick three people and then using whatever information you have available to eliminate two of them as being mafiates. That removes any bias I might have so all you have to worry about is your bias should you have any. |

Oh, wait, never mind. But anyway, I don't want this to turn into two big warring factions of people vs math and people vs BHS, so I'm going to: UNVOTE: ODWTF and VOTE: BHS I mean, the sooner we get him out, the sooner we can stop trying to kill math. It doesn't work. That tricky math bastard always has an ace up his sleeve. Last edited by russianreversal; 12-12-2007 at 12:08 PM. |

Ok, I just now realized this game was going. Shows how smart I am. But upon reading through the posts, my first reaction to hearing that Sith has a mathmatical system to find mafiates was one of "lynch him now!" Math never works to "find" mafiates. And anyone who tries to sell a formula is generally mafia themselves, trying to throw up a distraction.
But then I read what Sith's idea actually was, and it makes some sense to me. I know this doesn't add anything much to the discussion. Sorry about that.
