38) If I'm a mild mannered scientist/cop who somehow gets involved in a major catastrophe but I survive with ease, I expect my fellow scientists/cops to be able to do the same.

Another rubber band effect is found in fighting, racing, and sports games, where, when you start winning by too much, the AI controled player(s) become faster, tougher, or, in some racing games, just teleport to create a "challenge." This ties in to #31. However, with online components, it may be a non-issue. or it may make AI programmers lazy...

39.) In any and all online games, find a way to ban the idiots. Seriously, they're annoying the hell out of everyone.
40.) There are enough gang-related games already. I don't need another drive-by, especially a next generation super realistic one. 41.) All heroes should have the power to jump. A knee high pile a rubble wouldn't stop a 10 year old, so it shouldn't stop me, the saver of the universe. 42.) Time limits suck. Time limits with random encounters suck more. Time limits with random encounters while escaping from a collapsing building after defeating a boss on the top floor is just plain overused. 43.) Games should not be so serious that we can't laugh once in a while. Include some light-hearted humor. A poop joke or two wouldn't hurt either. 44.) Dues Ex Machina should never, EVER happen on the final boss. EVER! (An exception is Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. It made sense to the story and didn't actually kill the boss.) 45.) No ninjas in fighting games. What kind of self-respecting ninja stands in the middle of the open and doesn't attack until the other fighter is ready?

46.) Static environments suck. Give me more ways to take out enemies than simply shoot them.
47.) Kickass moves are only kickass if the camera can keep up. Gunz is a good example. Kingdom Hearts is not. 48.) If we're playing a twitch game, I appreciate the ability to dodge ala Unreal Tournament, Max Payne, and Gunz. Don't limit me to left-right-forward-back-jump-crouch. Give me some evasion moves! 49.) LISTEN TO YOUR PLAYERBASE!! They know more about how to improve the game than your QA team. (I'm looking at you Blizzard.) |

50) No character should teach another character how to use certain weapons/items/vehicles while referring to buttons on the controller. No one would say "to fire the gun, push 'square'" in real life.

I see the problem, as Mirai Gen said, about mixing oil and water but I don't want to discourage innovation. I was playing Katamari Damacy last night and was continually being blown away. "Why aren't more games like this?" I thought. Not even in the same genre--just so god damned daring. We've talked about it before, but even these minor fixes...I don't know if refining the RPG to a pencil point is the solution. I think rucking up the RPG and turning it upside down, left and right is the answer. I mean--how can you say Deus Ex was a bad mix? Eh? I have to agree about the player base. One of the most fantastic things about indie games and mods is seeing the suggestions of community inputted into the living, breathing, virtual world. So... 50) Game developers. Yeah, you. Uh, stop it. Just stop it. You've turned this into a profit over creativity (barely even a) niche, like so many others. Quit it. Your next-gen systems, save Nintendos, are all aiming to bring us more of the same shitty mainstream games. Use your fucking imaginination. 51) More player interactivity: let us do things we never thought we would be bale to do. The kind of thing that we're so used to not being able to do that we just stop for a second and go, "...wow." I'm talking about full interactivity with ones environment, maybe Kojima-style (as he describes MGS4). 52) More adventure games. Please?

53. (aimed at kingdom hearts) please allow us to skip cutscenes. either that, or dont put them right before a boss.
54. concerning loading times, atleast let us do stuff while the game loads. even a tiny mini game would be better than having to wait. Quote:
55. (aimed at KOTOR) please no "quasi-turn based combat. all i ever did was watch my character fight. i thought the game was supposed to be INTERACTIVE! |

Mojo Rule 56) This is to the publishers again... Consider us all poor. We like games but $50 dollars plus is already HUGE on a budget where you have to pay for college, internet, a house to rent, water, food, etc. You can expect $XXX,XXX,XXX to come in. However, when reality gives you a good swift kick in the crotch, don't blame me when I say "I told you so" and "You're crazy if you think soccer mom of Alabama is going to pay for that instead of gas in the SUV"
Mojo Rule 57) I can't stress this enough... WAL-MART IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!!! Oh sure, you get a mainstream game in there and it sells. But guess who shops at our local Gamestop, or anything else for the niche market? If you're a small guy, look into that. The retail model should be scrapped. Hell, I'm getting Half-Life 2 online just so I KNOW who's getting my money! Gimme a reason to get a game shipped at a cheaper price than the enemy (retail) and maybe, as developers, your margin will be much higher than getting Jewed over for your royalties. 58) Copyright... I've seen enough of Mario to last me the rest of the century. Luigi is ignored. Peach and Daisy need to seriously have their own personalities other than Damsel in Distress. Bionic Commando needs a remake. My point: IF YOU CAN'T KEEP UP WITH ALL YOUR CHARACTERS, DON'T SUE ME FOR TRYING TO MAKE THEM AS I SEE THEM IN A NONPROFIT GAME/COMIC/RENAISSANCE EFFORT Last edited by Jagos; 08-23-2005 at 03:48 PM. |

59) All games, especially FPS', should be more like Half-Life 2. But not clones.
