Maybe the author moved on to 4th Edition where a Paladin only has to be the alignment of his chosen deity and/or follow that deity's strictures closely. They really just took "Lawful Good" as a concept and threw it out the window because 99% of the time it was roleplayed as "Lawful Stupid."

In the land of Goblins neutral is regular guys on the street who support Good (actually evil) in all its endeavours to brutally murder Evil (actually good) because hey, it's the forces of Good, and anyway they don't know any better, and they end up getting brutally murdered for it.
