Edgy Comedy and Stand up

What I mean to say is that rape isn't a punchline and never should be. However, there can be jokes involving rape, as a concept, that don't paint it in any sort of positive or funny light. In the same way, jokes "about" Republicans on the Daily Show don't celebrate their views and actions, but instead are harshly critical of them.

But I also don't really trust anyone with crafting that kind of joke about that kind of topic and would just as soon have it not occur at all.

There are comedians doing menstruation jokes? That's... i don't think that works, like... ever. There is not even a slightly dark-angle you can explore to poke fun at... there is nothing to be funny there...

As for CK, he is what a lot of the Big name comedians are... 80% funny and 20% over the line. The thing is that people reach those 20% in different topics and rates, while the 80% is pretty much consistent.

I know a joke that involves both rape and menstruation, though the punchline is incest. There's however no circumstance in this world where I can imagine it would be funny.

Sometimes fun has to take a back seat to humanity. These times may become more and more frequent as humanity and our understanding of and concern for ourselves grow. Us jokesters just have to suck it up and grow up I guess.

See, people, what was the point in bothering to talk about anything other than if rape jokes are acceptable or not? It's the hottest-button issue in comedy, more than religious jokes, racial jokes, and whatever else you throw out there (abortion jokes?)

You'll have to clarify on this. I'm going to assume you mean menstruation jokes that are not acceptable are the ones where the punchline is "HAHA SHE IS ACTING CRAZY BECAUSE SHE IS MENSTRUATING!" because that's not really a menstruation joke, that is a sexist joke. Whereas if the joke involved like, somebody menstruating all over your white leather sofa, that would be hilarious.

Dammit, is the entire purpose of this thread to make me feel extremely guilty of my appreciation for Louis CK as a comedian?

...Because so far, all this thread is accomplishing is making me feel like a stupid privileged jerk for likin' Louis CK.

('Louie' on FX is actually a phenomenal show for the most part, with a genuinely progressive bent and a lot of attention given to stellar older actresses who tend to otherwise be overlooked in the business, and the young actresses who play Louie's daughters are incredibly talented and Louie's love for them is genuinely affecting, but then you get to the one or two scenes that CK badly botches, and it's just like, fuck, Louis, why are you ruining such a good thing.)

all edgy comedy crosses the line, or to be more exact someone's line. If it didn't it wouldn't be edgy to begin with. Frankly if we all agree that "x jokes" are ok its not an edgy joke
