It's pretty telling that many of these accounts are (or were, as several I looked into -- as best as I can without an actual Twitter account -- appear to have been deleted or shut down [or named changed, at the least]) owned by students, high school and young college. These are people who have likely grown up, at least partially (arguably in the most active social years of childhood), always connected and online. Being an asshole amongst friends and being an asshole out in public aren't different any more.

Unfortunately, that means several of them can and likely have voted in our elections.

Worse, I doubt any of them are even apologetic or aware of both how wrong they are or how awful they are. I, of course, am assuming they weren't raised to not be racists.

Edit: And it seems folks are also passing around photos of Miss Kansas, I think, as the "true" Miss America. Which furthers the "if it's not white, it's not American" shit.


Side note: Nina is gorgeous. Kudos to her win!

At least due to the usage of what is assumedly their real names, any future search by a potential employer is going to result in someone who is more or less unemployable due to obvious stupidity and racism.

However their obvious feelings of empowerment to make these statements suggests they are surrounded by people who are likeminded, which I guess is a sad commentary on vast swaths of our populace anyway.

Racists are racists, no surprise there. I'm sure they feel comfortable enough spouting their hateful crap in public because there are no real (systemic) repercussions for them for it. They may be so ignorant that they have no idea what 'India' even means and assume that anyone who's brown must be a muslim and therefore a terrorist, but the idea that muslim/arab = terrorist and terrorist = evil is a world view fostered and supported in several ways by US government policy.
