And to support her point, I myself grew up in the South (though not as far down as Louisiana) and I can safely say that the most disgusting display of systemic racism I've ever personally encountered in a community would have to have been in California.

As for this crazy crap in Jena, what the fuck, man? Honestly, even if the Governor doesn't step in, there has to be enough outrage and support for the kids charged here to finance a solid appeal at the federal level. What this situation calls for is an unquestioned legal precedent to be upheld, toute suite.

Not only is that a different argument, it's an argument explicitly addressed in the rules.

telling someone "what you're saying is stupid" or "you're acting like a dick" is just as much of a flame as calling someone stupid or a dick.

As far as California, if you want to argue that California plays host to its own unique flavor of racism then you might be surprised by how not-inclined I am to argue against you. I mean we are talking about a state that ran its first-class public school system into the ground because people preferred that to letting brown-skinned folk get any book-learnin' on their dime. So if you really want to hate Goddamn California for its racism then you know, okay, fair enough I guess. I mean like I said to Roy it'd probably be better judgment on your part if you didn't, but I'm not gonna stop you.

Actually, I hate California because of the weather, but that's a different discussion entirely. But no, I can't honestly justify hating all of a broad land area because some people in within it are, say, totally okay with the cops breaking the arm of a 17-year-old severely autistic kid who got lost one night because he was black, or hospitals not admitting woman who was so sick from something that her face was a dark shade of crimson because the man she came in with was black.

But I don't hate California for it. It seems like I wouldn't be any better than the individuals who do these awful things out of their own hate.
