If a cop is too concerned about standing up for what is right because his 'brothers' might treat him like they do 'regular people' THAT MEANS SHIT IS SERIOUSLY FUCKED UP

People are, in fact, people.
That this was all you gained from my post means my post was entirely a failure.
Quote:
Officers are people. That means there are terrible ones. That also means there are good ones. Your experience will certainly color your outlook. That is understandable, and, in fact, inevitable. It's the only thing you have, until someone else shares their own. Your experience does not give you accurate insight enough to say such things across the board in the broad manner you describe. Nor does mine, in fact. Hence, why I also am interested in news stories, those of friends and family, and those of folk long before we were ever related to an officer. All aggregated together, it produces a much more nuanced picture than "cops are bad" - and a yet the latter definitively and actively makes things worse for all, as it always does when categorizing a group of people in such a way. With that, I will exit the thread. Otherwise, this shan't end well, I think - it looks to be brooding to endless rounds of deeply set positions. By the way, Daimo - while I used your posts, please be aware that you are not, in fact, the sole entity that I disagree with in this thread. Instead, your posts are simply a convenient-to-quote thing. QUASI-EDIT: holy mackerel, have I been ninja'd by seven posts while making this one (that 'Danger Will Robinson' warning is neat; thanks, guys). After a brief perusal, it looks like my guess as to where the thread is headed is correct. Anyway, still leaving now. I can't take the fast pace of Nuklearpowerforums! It's just too fast!

It isn't just a question of your fellows who might not be the right people to wear the uniform stabbing you in the back but also people who might cause trouble cause you spoke out. They have to enforce the law no matter what they think of it. They can bend the rules but can't break them. There is also people outside of Law Enforcement who might think ill of you for not touting the party line and some of them are in positions of power to back stab you as well. It's a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't. In this case, all police officers are being damned for not speaking out by you two and many others. I repeat my earlier statement. I will respect the uniform and those who put it on for the right reasons. Those that dishonor their uniform should be punished and Darren Wilson is one such case that should get some form of punishment, even if he only is forced to resign and will never work in law enforcement again. Marc and Daimo, you are free to your opinions and biases of cops based on your life experiences. I will not argue them any further. With that said, I will also follow Tacticslion and exit this thread as well. This is not going to go good places I think.

What fucking message would it send beyond "murder is wrong?"

Yeah I am failing to see what 'terrible' message standing up on the right side of things would convey. You should have explained that one in some deep detail, because I am really interested in how you'd attempt to justify this one.
I agree that standing up would have incurred some serious backlash, just look at the reactions to seeing the people they abuse stand up for themselves. That isn't an excuse to stay silent, that is above and beyond reason to speak out, to say it isn't right and it won't fly. To excuse their silence with some half-baked vague notion that -somehow- speaking out against abuse and oppression would be -bad- is ridiculous. Not at all helped by the decision that it isn't worth your time to explain your own nebulous point because you can 'tell where things are headed'.

Stop the hate

Because honestly they don't believe what happened is wrong and they're trying like hell to dance around that instead of saying "We believe these people deserved to die".

I am going to say this, despite my distrust and anger towards police, I am willing to defend the armed forces.

So has anyone heard about how things have spiraled out of control.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-30188737 The ironic part is the riots are also hitting a lot of black owned business. This was the wrong way to handle this case going the way it did. And only serves to endanger the lives of innocent civilians. ---------- Post added at 09:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:29 PM ---------- Quote:
http://thefreethoughtproject.com/oat...-quota-system/ http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/20...d=rssnewsworld Some areas have it bad. but not all are bad. I've had some fantastic experiences with the police throughout my life. Minus 1 incident when I got accused of theft at a Office Max around the corner. And even then it was thanks to a good "White" cop that I was proven innocent. 1 out of well over dozens of encounters with the police for various reasons. Same goes for my uncle and even my mother, and we're all Black. Not all cops are your enemy. Not all cops are trying to harm you. Hate the assholes that bring shame to the force. Not the ones actually doing their jobs. And the ones fighting and dying to put an end to police brutality. I can't believe a forum that's been pretty good about being against racism is now generalizing an entire force spanning the entire country over actions done by the corrupt and the crocked. There's always more to a group then meets the eye. Not everyone within a group is inherently the same. And it's wrong to say no one's doing anything when yes people are trying to stop this within and outside of the force.
