CJ: Aww, gee. Thanks. Its odd. I took a long hiatus from drawing, so I'm still getting my skill back, but its interesting how fast it is happening. I drew that just a few days ago and it looks very crude... I have another drawing. Colored with photoshop CS2. I am not experienced with coloring things on the computer, but its not half bad for one of my first tries. Its probably obvious, but she is standing at the edge of a cliff, looking away at the sunset. The thing on her back is a hood. I'm not sure how clear that is. I'm trying a variation of a technique Nikose told me, where I go over it with pen (Well, I did it with pencil.) then scan it with a high DPI in black and white. What do you guys think, about the coloring and the drawing itself. Last edited by TDK; 02-29-2008 at 03:45 PM. |

And it continues..!
CelesJessa: Haha, that is one manly looking Sailor Moon. Maybe she just needs to lay off the 'juice' a bit..? Quote:
TDK: I rather like this one. Really just gives that laid back or just a "toned down" mood. I assume that's like a pond or something? Seems kind of odd for something that looks like a river to abruptly end like that. That is if it is a river, I'm just making an assumption here. The wings are a certain improvement, though. It took me ages to make feathered wings to get it just right, and it still tends to look awful. I've mainly used D&D books for reference, really (they have such pretty pictures.. Just sayin'..). Also, the clouds seem kind of like just glued on there. Probably due to how they're slanted. I dunno, something about them just feels like they're just... There to me. Assuming that it's a sunset drawing, the use of warm colors would've been niftier instead of the dominant blue. Maybe like a deep orange with little hints of purple and blue. But that just depends on what program you use on whether or not it's possible (all of this directed towards the sky, not the water [well, maybe just a bit]). EDIT: This critique was done prior to your edit. Or me just being too lazy to read the entire post... Quote:

That's the ocean or something. The end where the sunset begins is supposed to be the horizon. Forgive the problems with the sky and whatnot, I very seldom draw anything but people.

Joshelplex- Your sharks inspire me like no sharks ever have. They kind of remind me of the old SNES game E.V.O.
Inspired by Joshelplex's insane shark drawings, here is an egg I drew awhile back: My friends and I were playing on this online painter thing called Graffiti (it's kind of a funky program) and we started just drawing a picture together. It was crazy how it worked, because we had no prior planning, one of us just started on the face, one started on the hair, and one started on the clothes/background and these are the results. (It's crazy how well we worked around each other.) My only regret is that the program was terrible for blending.

You said you were using CS3 to colour things, right TDK? Not a bad job, though a simple bit of shading might make the thing come together a bit more. I'm talking like just an edge of darker colour in a couple spots.
Feathered wings are nigh impossible, and you are making good progress on those. (I chose wings and flight as my theme for an entire semester in art class, that's how I got good at them!) The pose itself is pretty well portrayed. I think what's making it look a little funny is the fact there aren't any folds in the dress. With one knee higher than the other, and the fact that the legs are angled differently from the torso, the material is going to gather in a couple spots. It would be a bit tricky to add in with that scabbard over top (it may be balanced a bit funny, but that's probably just me being confused without shading to use as a reference.), but you could experiment with a couple of basic fold lines in future drawings and see if that works well.

I find it difficult to do shading without any sort of background (well, at all, really. I kinda don't get how to do shading beyond putting a shadow when something is in the way of light.), but I see what you mean about all of that, Khael!. I'm actually using CS2, and I'm very inexperienced with computer-ing drawings from scanning to coloring.
I mean, I know HOW to do shading, but I have trouble figuring out where to put it and stuff. Tips? I'm still working on how to get fold lines and stuff. I'm experimenting with that. I don't really get it yet. I'm not 100% on drawing them good OR where to put them. Edit: Do you possibly have an msn or aim account so we could discuss this further? I got yahoo! My email for that is nichael.hawkins@yahoo.com . I don't use it for actual emailing though. I am online, but I'm already busy with schoolwork, so if you're on later tomorrow I might be able to chat then. I'd be glad to help.
In other news, I got my drawing app back for my tablet! It's a trial version, so heres hoping it doesn't completely vanish after 15 days. :gonk: Of course, after looking at this ugly bastard some of you will probably want it to vanish. XD
