Yeeeah, son.

I guess I worded it kinda weird. What I mean to say is that the hair looks too thick. Like, if the person had dreads that come to a point. Maybe making the hair thinner might help.
Also, some of the hair looks too "stiff" and the way it flows seems kind of odd. Mainly on the person's right side of the face. The hair follows a weird angle and it kind of bothers me. According to what I can tell from the picture, the person is supposed to have somewhat messy-ish hair. Maybe adding some independant hair strands may help that. Again, this is just based on from what I can tell. Some of this may be due to some of my pet peeves when it comes to drawing hair, so sorry if it fails to make sense.

Sketch of the coolest character ever from RE.
And a special ops agent kinda based on H.U.N.K. from RE. I plan to color this one. |

It seems you are Perspective's bitch.
She just slaps you around. Now, I have problems with perspective too sometimes, don't get me wrong. I mean, just look at that sketch I posted earlier. But the head on your last sketch is too slanted. Like he's being sucked into a black hole, old sci-fi movie-like. You know what I'm saying? But more than perspective, it might be anatomy too. Drawing a head before you draw the helmet will make sure the helmet at least roughly follows the head's contour. Now it looks more like you started with the helmet and then decided "Oh, wait! It has to be attached to a body too!" Other than those things, the pose itself looks good, although you swapped the shoulders around, it seems. The thin, short shoulder should have been on the side away from us, rather than closest. The body itself is also slanted, but it gives a (unintentional?) dynamic to the pose, as if he's just about to creep around a corner. In sketch one, the way his body's slanted gives that whole bad sci-fi "Aaah! I'm being sucked into a black hole"-vibe again. I'd say more, because I'm sure I can find some stuff, but I need to sleep. @_@ Almost midnight. Tomorrow, I might do a red-line over your drawing. Show you how I would have done it. (Mind you, my way isn't the right way. I might just be able to help you find the errors and then YOU can find the right way to do it.)

I tend to slant my drawings when I sketch a single thing and not a background or anything. The paper is just at an angle.

Some of the shading is probably off, but I'm definitely improving.

You'll notice my finished drawings, those that are not sketches, (Of which there are admittedly very few) are not like that.
The special ops picture on the last page, the colored one, is leaning forward on purpose, dramatically. Last edited by TDK; 04-30-2008 at 09:45 AM. |

The body of the guy, while not without flaws, looks to be doing that, yes.
His head, however, looks way off. And not just leaning. And I admit. I haven't seen any finished work of you. But still something to look into for you, dude. A doodle is where you goof off, a sketch is something you put effort in, so that you may finish it later.

Of course, what I was thinking, not following your personal definition of sketch and doodle.
