I should clarify that when I say "departure" I mean "oh shit I might enjoy this game". Despite the fact that he enjoys belts and zippers (and there's a lesser quantity of those in Versus than, say, KH2), he has shown an ability to be involved in an enjoyable game. Even if it was just character design and not directing the game, but nonetheless.

Plus it's Final Fantasy. For some reason it doesn't matter how bad they fuck up the plot, 90% of us will still play it. And I'll probably enjoy it.

I know I'm going to get reamed for this, but-- the Wii, while a great and innovative console, and a fresh take on things, is not the best choice for an ordinary, regular style game. The WiiMote is a double edged sword, with its obvious upsides, its downsides is that it becomes unwieldy for a modern game in which it makes more sense to use buttons rather than motion. And FF is one of these. Face it, while any FF game really only needs two buttons, Enter/Action/OK and Back/Cancel with a D-Pad, its just not a Wii game without motion control. And any motion control on a normal FF game (especially one at this point in development) is gonna feel either tacked on/unintuitive or its gonna warrant a radical restyling of the entire game. And you dont want either of those. However, its perfect for a FF side-story game, focused around this kind of action. Which, I'm sure we will get sooner or later.
I counter with the fact that the Fire Emblem game for the Wii was quite nice without any sort of motion sensing what so ever. The Wii mote is expertly designed in that you can use it very naturally like an Old NES controller. It even feels better in your hands and everything is easier to reach than an NES controller. Then there is the Classic controller which is probably the best multi-platform controller ever. If that still doesn't get you there is the ability to use Gamecube controllers instead. The Wii is most certainly not a one trick pony. As an aside, its graphics aren't nearly as bad as current games might lead you to believe. If devs actually got of their asses and spent time squeezing the last drop of power out of the graphics instead of churning out games to take advantage of the popularity we might actually be able to see that. Here is hoping that the Force Unleashed at the very least manages that.

All that being said I don't care what system a game comes out on if I like it I'll get it. I'll probably end up getting this FF for the X-box simply because I don't have that many 360 games at the moment.

Okay, I'll give you that argument, but can you imagine trying to play... say, The Orange Box on an NES controller? Because honestly, you shouldnt have to buy a Gamecube or Classic controller. Yes I know, its the Wii, its gimmick, if anything, is making you buy lots of controllers.

Also, The Force Unleashed on the Wii is getting the mostly same things as the PS2 version. That should tell you a little about its graphics. However, you do get WiiMote lightsaber battles. And thats really worth something.

Frankly, I'd think the Wii motion sensor system would be far better for something like the Orange Box games than mouse and keyboard or a standard control pad. For instance, as much as I found I disliked Metroid Prime 3 on the whole, I really did feel things worked quite naturally in the obscenely rare instances where I was actually shooting at things.

And as a standard controller, I've found that I really actually enjoy the whole Wiimote/Nunchuck layout. It's comfortable and intuitive. No More Heroes, for instance, was a great example of how the Wii controller can work great for a more classic sort of game. It had motion control involved, but it was primarily limited to jerking the controller in a certain direction in place of button inputs, and since a FF game needs a D-Pad/control stick and two buttons at most, the Wii would work fine for it.

However, S-E is most interested in having their games be as pretty as humanly possible, which is something the Wii can't give them, and that's why they aren't developing a Wii version of this game.

Yeah wait back up a second, all graphical horsepower questions aside is someone seriously trying to argue that Team Fortress 2 would somehow not be totally sweet played with a Wiimote?

I was actually more implying that the whole point of putting FFXIII on PS3 (And now 360) was so tht it would be all next gen and shiny. If they are gonna put it on the Wii, the main reason for it going next gen is lost.

I just want to say I'd be down for a new 2D final fantasy. FF6 was so pretty and I find such things quite stylish and in some ways prefer them to the close-to-lifelike 3D FF games which irk me somewhat. They so close to human like you notice all the little differences more. But I don't think it would sell too well so we'll never see it.

And I agree. Every shooter ever should be released on the Wii. MP3 was totally one of the best control schemes I've ever used.

I dont know if every one should. Can Wii handle 60 man multiplayer matches? Cause Ressitance 2 has that, and thats the main selling point for that game.

All I've seen and heard of VersusXIII so far makes me think "this is a mature KHII". If you are fine with that then that's great, but so far Nomura has given me more worries than hopes about what he can do with an Action RPG. This looks like to be the same shit in a new paint of coat coat of paint.

It's a Wonderful World/The World Ends With You, however, is totally sweet and I should probably give him more credit for that. I'm also psyched up for Sigma Harmonics.

True, and probably the reason Square sucks so much these days.

Probably not. I'd say the Wii should not be for MASSIVE ACTION GAMEs. But something more subdued, like twelve to twenty multiplayer matches? The Conduit is supposed to be able to do that. You should be on the lookout for that game.

Trailer for The Conduit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5EhfHNPA8g
