Exactly. I often don't have much to say on a given topic. I seem to have a knack for pissing people of so I pretty much avoid the discussion forum. I've been here since February and I still feel like a n00b so I don't always say anything. I come here several times throughout the day, and often just read and enjoy what others have to say. When I have something to contribute, I do, but that's not very often. :fighter:

I'm like that in real life, too, kind of shy until I feel comfortable that I won't look like a complete fool...

Before when I asked about deleting those accounts that never posted/posted very little then never again, Mash said that she couldn't do it, but Pierre could. I'm not sure if it's an admin thing (Which doesn't seem to be the case), or if it's a bigger site thing.

ok I have a burning question here, IHMN, you seem to have a comma or a period under you name, why?

also by the members list I am 17th in post count and the first with a negetive number also only one person who is newer than me is higher in post count.

I say remove the post count

Cao Zhen, however, continues to follow the road, as grass is too green for his liking this time of year.

Many people create an account, then never post, because they believe that only a signed up person can view the threads. I actually joined up on another board because of that, although I would've joined anyways. Because of that, they might just leave the "Sign me in every time I get here" box checked, then when they clean out their spyware infested cookies folder, they no longer remeber that password. Or realize their mistake. Or just never know that, and keep lurking or get bored.

Also, pleanty of boards, IRC chans, or chat rooms out there are basically just chaos. GameFAQS, Go-Gaia, etc. The introduction of "rules" on the intarweb might just blow their tiny minds.

And the spelling and grammar! So foreign to internet urchins these days...

To put my feelings on the matter bluntly, the internet is a very different place than real life. Some of the post count elite here are very young, and so have a large amount of free time where they can pursue whatever it is they enjoy doing. This includes posting here, and since they have a perceived seniority and influence here, they are more likely to behave in an authoritative manner. The catch 22 being that these young people have no or fewer experiences actually being an authority figure, so they react with impetuousness and pride often. Examples might include such things as blatantly and rudely telling someone they have broken the rules, or affecting a condescending attitude when interacting with new members. (I hate that stupid word noob) Since the majority of new members are most likely young themselves, they will either perceive these attitudes as scary or insulting, and choose not to post anymore. The post count ticker is not just a factor in this, I believe its the main impetus behind it. A 14 or 15 year old kid who suddenly "outranks" people 5or 6 or more years older than himself may be filled with unreasoning power madness, despite being intelligent or well spoken.

to sum it up, post counts are a source of perceived power to some, and power corrupts.

absolute power corrupts absolutely.

thats the way I feel about it anyway.

What the? why delete the post counts? They aren't harming anyone.

If anything, they show how active the users on the forum are. Besides, it gives me a warm and gooey feeling every time I hit a new high.

As for deletion of accounts, I am all for it, but only if there has been less than 10 posts in the past (insert Number) months since start up.

I mean it should also save on bandwidth.

The only person I've ever seen who really pushes his post count is Otaku with his "Add 222" thing.

I say most of the zero posters were the previously mentioned name-triers. The 8-Bit fanbois usually just do one post saying their fave character is [blank].
