Oh: Divergence Eve is worth a watch just to experience for yourself the sheer cognitive dissonance of watching the most dead-serious goth-drama of a the-universe-is-dying-and-probably-deserves-it anime you've ever seen, acted out by characters that look like this.

I'd totally watch that.. for like 5 seconds before realizing just how shitty it is and then I would just watch porn like normal people.

But besides the ones mentioned, School Rumble is a really funny romantic comedy type anime. The first season is completely recommendable, but meh, the second season seemed too girly but whatever.

Also, Paranoia Agent was great right up until the end where it just seemed to make absolutely no sense and it confused to no end.

On GITS: Watch the first movie and the SAC series. Avoid Innocence and Solid State Society.

Also, Black Magic M-66.

Ninja Scroll was mentioned, but there's also a miniseries. Watch it.

Black Lagoon was also mentioned. Get this YESTERDAY.

Black Magic M-66 is another good movie, and a creation of Shiirow Masamune (the guy who created GITS)

Angel Cop was pretty good as I recalled.

DEVILMAN.

And finally, Persona: Trinity Soul. It's like Bleach, but good. A bit slow but a good story. And if you're asking, yes, it's based on the Persona RPGs. It's supposed to be a sequel of P3, apparently.

Alright, you most likely have never heard of this but....
It's a non-violent, dramatic with a story line that I would say has to be more deep than almost any anime I've ever seen, if not the most deep.

Its out on DVD, and is the most highly-accredited underdogs of the year. You can watch the first two episodes for free on Gaia online.
