There is no Toph, only Melon Lord!

Yeah, surely anyone who hates Halo is irrational.
edit: I also like how you cherrypicked the most competitive and outdated series of the bunch in counterstrike, while ignoring the other games on that list that did everything Halo did atleast a half year before hand, and in most cases several years before. Halo's innovation came solely from being on a console, and its only competition was, as you said, an N64 game.

So... There was no online multi for the Xbox and because, as I mentioned, the main issue was the fact that the best game at the time was on the N64, and we're also forgetting the PC versions because at the time PCs were more for applications than gaming (bear with me), You're dismissing everything I said about the console market being deprived of a good FPS title save for Timesplitters 1 (2000) and Perfect Dark? I wasn't arguing that the PC scene wasn't more complex. Hell, Deus Ex came out around the same time as Halo. But you asked why Halo was so huge and it's mainly to do with the fact that the Xbox console 1) Needed a good game that attracted a lot of people. FPSes and sports do that with RPGs in a close third. 2) It wasn't done on the console market before. 3) It was unique to Microsoft at the time. Kerensky answered the rest so I'm dropping the Halo subject since I don't really want to turn this into a big huge Halo war. |

I got my moneys worth with all of the Halo series. I had a lot of fun with the crazy and low-thought killing parts, I really enjoyed matching up against my friends for the first time ever (I'd never had much fun before in vs on most games), While the story wasn't a finely crafted godsend, It interested me.
I don't listen to hype, I mostly Ignore commercials and video teasers and such unless I'm actually interested to see the gameplay or the like. Hype is just marketing, if a big D didn't talk their game up and down the wall it would be a shock. Yeah, it can lead to certain expectations, but that's why I don't get into Hype.
