Rick Zarber was a character I created/played in 1997 for our first (and to date, only) feature-length movie. When we first got the internet in my house a few years later I used it as my email address and AIM screen name. I just sort of stuck with it ever since, and "RickZarber" has become my persona for everything I do online.

I was high on The Invisibles after reading it for about the fifth time and changing my entire way of thinking for the second time. So there's that.
The last book of the series is called The Invisible Kingdom, so it was a short step to make myself royalty. Royalty with invisible, nonexistent power. Seemed like a funny idea. I suppose I wanted to be a soapbox for Invisiblism. I used to have a blank avatar and a signature that said something along the lines of "Close your eyes and see me." No wait, it was "You have read a post by the Invisible Queen. Now open your eyes and go back to sleep." How ironic that most of my posts went unnoticed until I decided to be myself instead. Anyway, you could call me Jenny if you want to be more personable. I never liked the IQ abbreviation, it makes me look like an intellectualist.

I believe I've told this story before, but here we go again.
Way back in those dark days, an age were words were just beginning to form, numbers were confused with letters and wild battle.nets roamed free. I was but a wee lad of 12, exposed to the full wild glory of the internets for the first time after escaping the dark dungeons of AOL. I'm ashamed to admit it but I was overwhelmed by the freedom, my feeble senses were not prepared to absorb that much stimuli at the same time. It was in this state I began to idolize the concept of hackers, to me they were the wizards of the digital world. Breaking not just the rules of society, but the fundamental laws of (digital) nature. And so the concept of 'Hack Mage' was born, a sorcerer of nearly unlimited power in the digital landscape, ready to destroy any barriers that stood in his way. Of course it was the dark days of 'leet speak' the 'Hack Mage' became 'h4x.m4g3'. And thus my tale began. |

I was leaving a chat room and somebody said "lyaer" at me. They meant "later." My first thought was that it sounded like an elf name from some cheesy fanfiction about elfs (and if you type it in Google you will probably find some) so I put it on and it stuck.
Before that I was Mr. McMooo, which like three of you might recognize. That came from being put on the spot to name an e-mail address when I was thirteen and liked alliteration too much. I used that name back and forth with Lyaer for a while, but decided to phase it out. I think I still am on some messengers, though. |

Mostly random. I had decided to join my first forum (Maximum Ride forums, by the way, now defunct) at, like, 13 and needed a name. I picked a random jumble of syllables that seemed good. I'm still not sure how to pronounce it, though.

I object! I wasn't a stupid teenager. ...I was a socially inept teenager who had an Aqua Teen Hunger Force DVD on in the background while I registered for this board, who thought the reference would totally make me one of the cool kids around here. (That is what happened, right?)
I'm surprisingly happy with the name, actually, given that I'm usually horrible at naming things. (Naming characters in RPGs stops me dead for around ten minutes for each character. It used to be longer until I resorted to leafing through my copy of the complete works of Shakespeare looking for something that sounds kind of right.) Anyway, if you see a Satan's Onion anywhere else, it might very well be me; as far as I know I'm the only one who uses this name.
