Irony: n the expression of meaning by the use of words normally conveying the opposite; the apparent perversity of fate or circumstances.
(the Oxford English Minidictionary, 1995) My personal feeling is that this falls under the second part of the definition. This person was killed for a game by someone who had played the game in a way that (I believe) derived from the game.
