The kids are going to escape into the Trolliverse when the Scratch takes effect, by creating another portal like the one that will be used to banish Jack.

They'll end up meeting their reset selves at some point, I imagine.

So if the Scratch doesn't bring Jack to the troll universe, why would Doc be so interested in ensuring it happens?

The Scratch is probably a contributing factor if nothing else. I mean we've also got the Green Sun and The Tumor to deal with, and Jack himself has First Guardian powers which has to count for something.

The Scratch contributes to Jack getting into the troll session, which Doc Scratch needs to happen in order for Cal to end up in Kanaya's care.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was another Double Reacharound Combo and the scratch results in the Troll universe. Karkat is Reset John.

Point of contention: If they never existed, the trolls never interacted with them or anything. As the trolls have interacted with them, either the trolls need to be reset as well, or SOMETHING that we know about the scratch/universe isn't correct, or something important was omitted.

I feel as if all the dream stuff currently going on might have something to do with this. Dave's shirt, for example, went from pre-scratch to post-scratch, as he was trying to remember who he was.

Or it could be that, much like the non-"Alpha" timelines, a reset timeline counts as a whole different universe. Trollian isn't able to contact any timelines other than this "Alpha" one, and the Scratch eliminates that "Alpha" universe. Hence the howling void in the Trollian portal.

The reset universe isn't the same universe: that's the whole point of altered presets. This isn't like Dave's rewinding, where anything that he does has to have already happened; this is the cessation of one universe, and the birth of an identical one.

Aah, that makes a lot more sense. I was thinking the hard reset meant, "Anything that this explosion hits will never have existed", and not, "Everything still had existed, but is now exploded."

It's still worth wondering, what is the Scratch meant to do, if it's not to be used on unwinnable sessions? And why would Doc want to avoid whatever will happen, if the kids' session continues? If it continued and the universe ended, then his goal would be accomplished. It doesn't make sense.

Even after I learned, grew up, and came to be on the right side of a lot of important issues, I was still angry, abrasive, and generally increased the amount of hate in the world, in pretty unacceptable ways.
