One of the two Roses there has the wrong face (it's the smaller brighter one). Like I said, it was minor.

I think the Trolls didn't so much screw up their game as they missed getting 100% completion. The credits roll and at the end, Eggman is still holding 3 out of 7 emeralds. Jack has all the markings of being a True Final Boss, and really, how often does the Evil King wind up being the main villain? If we're supposed to look at this like a videogame, the Black King is a pretty typical red herring. We knew about him too early on for him to wind up being the main villain.
Since dream selves seem to be less affected by timestream changes, I'm wondering if their dream selves existed before their paradox real selves. In their personal timelines, that is. Like an independent existence just based on the fact that this will one day happen. Like ripples in time or something. Makes me wonder if truly winning the game has something to do with causing their dream selves to exist outside the game. Wasn't there a big bit of text early on that suggested things weren't quite right in John's world? If the dream self is the real one, that kind of thing would make some sense. At its core, this is still a parody of escape/adventure games. Quote:

Speaking of which, does anyone have any idea how the denizens play into all this? There are at least a few game goals that have been laid out, including:
1) killing the denizens, 2) using the grist obtained from the denizens for the Ultimate Alchemy, 3) reaching Skaia and defeating the black king and queen. All I can guess right now is that they're more like level bosses, being the bosses of the individual planets. Last edited by katiuska; 06-05-2010 at 01:38 PM. |

I would assume it is.
The game setting is obviously intended as a increasingly-super-impossibly elaborate game of chess(with a rank-wise addition of card games like poker, such as Jack, Queen, and King, not to mention the different suits). At first, the Chess element is retained when the Black Queen is slain, due to the Queen not being the essential piece to a game of chess. The most powerful, perhaps, but not the piece that would mean insta-lose if lost. The Chess motif is no longer relevant, however, when the Black King is slain by his own underling, which is impossible in Chess rules(a player could sacrifice the queen, but you cannot do the same to your king). This new animation quite firmly cements that Jack/SS isn't in the mood for chess: Not only is he decimating both forces, he is literally destroying the playing field. I dunno about his actual motives in full, but he really hates Chess. |

Not true, actually. There's still one pawn left alive on the board with an item that will, for all intents and purposes, transform him into a queen on the far end of it.

Yeah, but one king has been removed from play. Unless the game counts Jack as the new Black King, then it should have ended the moment the Black King died.
The rules apply to others, but clearly not Jack. I kind of see the Agents as a separate entity from the game. They don't have to abide by the rules, as they aren't quite chess pieces. |
