Decided it was best to move things along. You know, Arhra seems to get some sort of kick out of terrorising Gina. First, ratings information for if you need to check anything.
This fight is Doom Cookies. I decided I'd have some fun and incorporate a vulnerability into the Caryatid. See if you can find it! First of all, an ability both types of enemy in this fight use: Aberrant Flames: The power of Chaos has warped the Fire Temple, giving rise to fires that are not. The magmagators and the Caryatid can both spew aberrant flame, the types of which are described below. In the case of being hit by multiple flames at once, the effects become extremely unpredictable. In other words, make something up! Ideally, it should be at least partially related to the existing effects, though I'm allowing a lot of leeway seeing how hard some would be to link together. Beige Flame of Nudity - This flame only burns clothes and other garments. How embarrasing. Blue Fire - This burns with a cool, blue flame. You could probably keep it in a bottle. Blue Fire of Factual Accuracy - This blue flame, white at its core, is like normal fire, but hotter. Yellow Flame of Treachery - This sulfurous, flickering flame also burns things that are fire-proof or being used to put out a fire. It was probably invented by grand viziers. Crimson Flame of Hotness - These lurid red flames will actually make things sexier instead of burning them. It still feels like burning though. Emerald Fire of Transmutation - This flame, instead of burning things into ashes, burns them into reptiles. Golden Fire of Good Cheer - The colour of buttercups and sunshine, this merry, frolicksome fire warms the heart. Who would have guessed being on fire could be so much fun? Indigo Flame of Excess - This dim and dark flame adds to fuel instead of consuming it. This has odd effects on living things. Make sure to set your entire body on fire if you like being in proportion. Violet Flame of Violence - It's like there's a party in your head and everybody's fighting! This intense flame could turn the nicest man alive into a raving psychopath. Grey Flame of Leadeness - A dull flame the colour of molten lead, this flame is almost solid, though very soft and malleable. While not especially hot, it is very heavy, making the main damage from it blunt trauma. You could club someone to death with it! The Invisible Flame - The colour of this flame can not be specified, for it can not be seen. Perhaps it drank some sort of invisibility potion? Don't be ridiculous! All Consuming Black Fire - This short lived fire burns everything. Water, fire immune creatures, love, other fire, everything! It is black because it burns any light that touches it. For clarification, the Blue Fire, Golden Fire of Good Cheer and Violet Flame of Violence do not actually cause any physical harm. The Blue Fire is kind of spooky though. Now the enemies! Name: Caryatid of Fire, Guardian of the Fire Seal Class: Boss Appearance: This Caryatid deviates from the pattern of the previous two. Her upper body is of similar design to her predecessors, a female form of sculpted beauty. Her hair is as black as pitch, fading to an ash grey at the tips and her eyes are bright as the sun. She wears armour, the dark material decorated by bright rivulets of molten metal. However, below the waist she has the body of a monstrous snake, with a segmented spine and ribs of blackened metal. The pulsing flesh of her serpentine section resembles magma and is held within this metal cage, straining at it's confines. It is a latter addition, the spinal structure continuing up the Caryatid's back, blossoming into an almost wing-like array of vanes, flame coming from their spouts. Abilities/weapons: Imposition of Law - Utter Flame Immunity: The Caryatid is completely immune to all forms of fire, including the aberrant flames. Yes, even the ones that specifically say they affect fire immune creatures. Chaos Vent: The Caryatid's divergent appearance is due to purposeful modification intended to combat the corruption of Chaos within the Temple. Chaos tainted elemental essence is continually drawn into her serpentine body and then filtered through arcane machinery and magic within her, the purified flame released through the vanes on her back. It is a very delicate process - the output must be kept in balance with the absorbed flame to avoid problems. However, it is versatile enough to let her instead fire gouts of unpurified flame every so often, subjecting targets to two or more of the aberrant flames. Hot enough for ya?: The Caryatid has command over the element of fire, giving her a variety of pyromantic attacks. Look out near those pools of fire - lava tentacles are not your friends! Body of the Forge: The Caryatid of Fire has metal skin and bleeds lava. As you can imagine, this makes her difficult to hurt. Moving like a tongue of flame, she has the blazing ferocity of a bonfire. She enjoys slashing at people with various sharp implements and hurling flame, often both at once. Name: Magmagator Class: Sane Appearance: Adapted to life in active volcanoes, the magmagator is a crocodilian beast with skin reminiscent of dimly glowing coals. It is a little more limber and thinner than your average alligator, also having a smaller head and actually possessing a neck. It occasionaly spits up sparks and ash, hinting at its fire-breathing ability. They're surprisingly fast on land over short distances. Abilities/weapons: Magmagators rely extensively on their fiery breath in battle, generally supplementing this by biting and whacking things with their tail. They can and will bite and flame at the same time. They are highly resistant to their own kind's breath but not immune and can easily withstand non-magical fire. Flame Belch: Magmagators can breathe fire. These ones, being tainted by chaos, breathe aberrant flame instead. A single magmagator can breathe different types, though they show a tendency to stick to a few kinds. They do not consciously choose which flame they will breathe.

Just feeling the need to mention this, seeing it made me do a double take on reading it.

They're swimming through lava aren't they? Lava + oxygen balls = explosions. Sure they may be fire proof but an explosion is still an explosion.

See, for an explosion to do any damage, it has to be under pressure. Otherwise, it's just a fire. Since the Oxygen ball is open to the air, it's just gonna go "fwoof!" and burn up, if you get what I mean by "fwoof."

Burn.

There's also nothing for it to really burn. Gas-based fires and explosions need fuel to burn, and if it's oxygen, it lasts for only a few seconds. Plus lava is not hot enough to ignite oxygen. It'd have to be pretty much pure O2 in order for it to combust like that.

It kinda is pure oxygen. Elemental shot and magic and all that. Also, I'm pretty sure lava's hot enough to ignite pure oxygen. Lava's, like, 700° to 1250° Celsius, which is 2000° Fahrenheit (via scholastic.com). That's pretty hot. Also, I'm sure I'm not the only person who has seen little (or big) flames popping off a lava flow. So, it's not too hard to see how a ball of oxygen would probably immediately ignite (not that the oxygen's burning, per say, but the extra oxygen would make the lava burn more fiercely for a moment, until it was all consumed in combustion).
So, uh, it is pure oxygen, it'd make an impressive fireball, but it wouldn't make a concussive blast. Now, no more physics before we start questioning how we human team members are surviving unprotected so close to open lava. No more! EDIT: Wait, one more physics thing before we're done. More of a chemistry thing, though. Where there's combustion, there's water. Product of reaction and all that. So, there's at least a little water vapor, and thus material for a water shot or two. Thank Mike for your weapon.
