Somehow, I'm almost certain both I and the OotS guy just flagrantly ripped off Setzer for both these characters.

Actually, Setzer and most of the FF6 crew are part of the cameo here...

Which are?
List of Special Vehicle features and coments on how they're still available by synthesis only.Power Source (1): Not an issue. If it's there, or if I can salvage one from somewhere else, there's noting stopping me from using one.

Unique (1): Self made stuff would get this automatically. Not the case either.

Iconic (1): Though it's harder to do, things like just spraying the guild logo on a vehicle would fall under that(guild people usually will help guildmates more willingly).

Movement (2): All vehicles move. That's kinda the point of making one.

Magic Touch (2): While the name implies use of magic, it can be just as well done with things like a retinal scan or, in case of an android, a serial number identification. Still doable by Synthesis.

Large (1): Making big things is pretty much why you have Tinkering and Machines separated. so it's Synthesizeble.

Unorthodox Travel (3): Adjustments for difficult conditions are things like an alternative set of sails, or a 4x4 drive. So it's also doable by mechanical means.

Indestructible(5): "The vehicle is nigh-unbreakable,
reinforced with special materials and carefully
protected from harm.
" It's only a matter of obtaining the materials. Then it's just another Synthesis check to put them in place.

Flying (5): It dosen't have to fly by magical means. And if it has, Magitech synthesized with a skill works fine here too.

Buoyant (3): A block of concrete can be made to swim. It's also doable by mechanical means.

Weapon Systems (5): I can make those, I can use those.

I really can't see a reason not to allow skipping the biggest hurdle of getting a working vehicle(which would take months or years to craft, for which time and money we'll probably have not) with an ability, and then simply expand upon the concept in a more traditional way.

You really should stop killing every idea just because it's not elaborated on in the book. The book isn't complete, nor it is flawless. The game shouldn't be a pain in the back to walk around all the unnatural restrictions.

I can understand why you don't like some of my Graft concepts. But this...

"Gee, can I get a powerful vehicle by spending some gil and making a skill check instead of investing one or more of my precious few job abilities in it?"
"No."
"Stop killing all my ideas guys!"

So yeah.

I mean, if Ecurt wants to give the group a Totally Awesome Airship With All Sorts of Cool Stuff at some point without forcing us to sink a ton of job abilities on it, that'd be really nice of him, but letting one guy crank out all manner of vehicles for everyone could be a real pain in the neck for him.

Some game systems actually force you to buy accquisitations with your experience. If you pick up those Shades of Super-Cool, you'd better be dropping some experience into your artifacts background sooner or later.

From what he said, it'd be perfectly fine for me to get an incredibly powerful vehicle by making a skill check OR taking a job ability, but not by combining them. So the exact power of the vehicle isn't the point.

After all Synthesis(Machine) primary use is crafting Vehicles and their Weaponry.

Picking up skills to use all this stuff is a separate manner. :P

Menarker: You don't have to roleplay your dragon as the same stats as you. As for the grafts, I won't allow you to sell your grafts, but I will allow you to upgrade them at a lower cost.

Naqel: The only indestructible things I'm ever going to let you guys build with synthesis are weapons - and that's because it'll take up a slot that could be used for another weapon ability. I know NPF well enough to know that the first thing people will do with an indestructible vehicle is crash it through everything and everybody that they can. That, in my opinion, is worth a job ability.

Also, weapon systems as part of the shared ability function at the same tier as its owners weapons, which is a whole lot cheaper than building them yourself, and automatically upgrade as you get a better weapon.

Okay, okay. Indestructible things are bad. But it still dose not solve the problem which would appear if I got the Special Vehicle ability:

I now have an airship/truck/tank/whatever.
+
I can make BIG weapons.

It's all fine, aside from:
Quote:
Buster Sword: A Buster Sword is a Massive weapon that may, as an instant action, be broken down into multiple different types of blades – daggers, multiple swords, Katanas, etc - with the same damage die as a typical weapon of that type would have, but keeping the same weapon properties and abilties. A Buster Sword can be turned back into a Massive weapon as a Standard action.
So unless we use yet another house rule, or you don't plan to break your sword for uses other than a "Limit Break" you'll need to pick up the skills with whatever weapons you plan to have your sword "broken" to and eventually also some levels at Two Weapons.
