SO.. 8 Bit theater 2

The 8-Bit Act II comic that someone had going on here for a little bit was decently enjoyable. Not as good as 8-Bit's better moments, but it had a better start than 8-Bit did.

Still, and this is speaking as someone who actually made a sprite comic for a little while, if I never see another sprite comic again, I can't really say that I'll be missing out.

I you're gonna learn other languages, go with two or three of the predominant ones in today's society and then learn one that pays your bills (C, C++, etc.)

Latin isn't totally useless in understanding (and thus learning) contemporary languages. Also useful for a Vatican spy.

Anyway I'm just going to stop this here because the language discussion is off topic, not going anywhere and I think what we've heard so far tells us enough and while we could go back to discussing a theoretical 8-Bit Theater 2, an 8-Bit Theater 2 is officially not happening.

A language doesn't have to be spoken to be omnipresent. Not if so many other languages are based on it. If you wanted a percentage for English, I'd say... bout 50% of it is latin, or stems from a latin basis. Spanish would be more like 60%, Italy would be 80% or more. These are the languages that shaped the world. Latin is still firmly rooted in our day-to-day conversation, certainly in our written conversation (what we're using is called the roman alphabet for a reason, if not for the spread of latin through europe, we probably wouldn't be using these letters). Even more so in anything scientific. Physics to biology, it's all latin.

And because of this firm rooting in modern-day language, it provides two things:
a) makes it one hell of a lot easier to learn most european languages
b) gives you a far deeper understanding of these languages

I mean, even if you don't intend to learn any more languages, the similarities between, say, english and latin are quite obvious once you know both languages. And that, in turn, imparts a huge understanding of the etymology of different words. And understanding what a word meant back then, and what it has developed into today, firstly is really an eye-opener in regards to cultural evolution, especially if you start considering what could have driven this change. Also increases the precision and elegance of your own language use, I think.

In a way you're right. Latin doesn't have a certain application like a programming language does. It probably won't pay your bills. It's not a tool. But what it does is hugely increase your understanding of our world, our culture, our language.
And I think that's totally worth it.
