Yeah, I like that. It's cool that he introduced that and Elan gets to use that in a regular combat situation. Even if V's still down.

IIRC Burlew said he liked implementing Bond style plot setups, where he specifically gives people abilities and powers and then lets them toy about to varying effects. It lets him do more dynamic writing.
He said this in the book during when V was a lizard and had only three spells. The only one he didn't use was the Hold Portal because Hold Portal is useless.

There are two explanations for this attack.
1) The secret Gate protector group has decided to kill them off. 2) The chromatic dragons are upset with V. Latter is more likely given Burlew's incredible amount of stalling recently.
