The quoted thread lists WM, RM, and Fighter. His recent statement pretty much eliminated WM, which means it's between RM and Fighter.

And if this is the final scene, as many have guessed, then it has too be Fighter.

Yeah, RM's too into dnd. In which case, he views life as a story generated by the DM. He wouldn't be speaking so cynically on fate.

Well, he did say at present only RM and Fighter have red boxes. I could still cling to my radical Thief theory, if his text changes color when he changes class.
I don't think that Fighter, no matter what kind of revelation he has, would talk like Mr. Red. He only speaks intelligently when it's for a joke--Like when they raided Astos' body, or when the Airship crashed into Elfland. Him speaking like that all the time would be a very radical departure. Thus, unless Thief's dialouge color changes, I'm going to have to stick with Mr. Red being RM. |

Yes, but Brian has said in interviews and posted on these forums many times that Fighter's probably the smartest of all of them. Fighter's ordeal was trying to get him to realize that. Other mods have quoted him on that several times in this thread. Now, I know they're trying to tell us something, but what could it possibly be....?

my personal take on this:
brian has no idea what the hell he's doing in terms of plot/story (at least long term) at all. this latest comic of BB's head doing the bloody shampoo of WM proves this. actually, i think BB's death also proves this as well, since i don't think he had intention to kill him when he first brought him in. and for this latest one....it was a direct response to the fans bitching in the forums about his death and resurrection. i highly doubt that when he did the WM as god bit, that he had this comic planned out in any capacity. thus, you guys are doing nothing more than trying to find links in the comics that don't exist whatsoever. it WAS BB talking, but only because brian had no idea that he was going to kill him off. |

I disagree, Jaysc. The latest BB episode was a reaction to fan idiocy, yes, but it in no way proves that he's just making this up as he goes along. And what is your supporting evidence that person number 2 was BB? And he has stated that there IS a long term storyline that only he is privy. Yes, that could be a lie, but I doubt it. I mean, what kind of hack writer sits down and starts just pulling stuff out of his ass? Perhaps, when BB was introduced, it wasn't Brian's intention to kill him off, but it was a good idea and it worked. This last time was because I'm guessing that if people didn't shut up about bringing back BB, it might very well make him not want to do this anymore. I sure as hell would get tired of people thinking they could tell me how to be creative. What is this, network television?

No, Brian does have a grand story. He stated years ago that he was going to kill someone off, but their death would have great signifigance and be meaningful to the story. Then, years later, BB died.
Also, Brian doesn't alter his story to fit what the fans say. Case in point: When the Lich battle was about to start, fans speculated that, since Cure hurts the undead, Lich would be killed by someone playing "The Cure". Brian found this idea simply hilarious, and said that he wished he had thought of it himself, but he had already planned out another direction (Hell-King BM). Fighter has smart moments, sure, like when he thought that the Dwarfs would smell Thief's Elfiness, or when he corrected RM's math, but his manner of speaking only changes for a joke. Just because Fighter may lose his naivete doesn't mean he'd instantly start speaking like RM or WM. I don't see anywhere where Brian himself has said it was Fighter at the end. The mods might, sure, but AFAIK they're privvy only to as much information as we are. Brian only said that it's someone with has/will have red text, who's in the Deathtrap when BM's on the windshield. So, RM or Fighter. ...Or maybe Thief. It's still not Thief though, if you're going by anything that Brian has said. If we're going to include Thief, then we might as well bring WM back into as well. No, it isn't how Fighter talks, and that has been my main issue with it as well, but when you look at the other conversant, it doesn't exactly talk like BM, either. No zings, no one-liners, no rambling diatribes about how he can summon power to bend the fabric of reality to his own will. And no, I doubt Brian has outright told any of the other mods his amazing plan, but I still feel that they have a slightly better grasp on things than the rest of us. They have access, even if it's just a more intimate knowledge of the way the author's mind works. So, while anything they say might not be absolutely definitive, it should at least be noted more than anything you or I might say.
And no, I'm not kissing ass. Pay attention. As for Fighter's particular speech patterns, I direct you to Episode 301. Note Fighter's Treatise on "Philosophy and Art of Sword-Chuckery". There's still some Fighterness in there, but it's not entirely the same child-like vocabulary, and most of the things like "you can be chuckin' swords like no one's bee's wax" are symptomatic of a happier Fighter. Were it indeed Fighter in episode 434, then there wouldn't be any happiness. From what I understand, Fighter naturally has a pretty keen intellect, but he's just never really opted to use it. We're he to awaken his sleeping brainmeats, it's very possible that he could, say, use the word "goad" in a normal conversation.

No, you see, WM's speech-color isn't going to change, but there's a slight chance that Thief's will. Brian did say that the only characters that presently have red text are Sara, Sarda, RM, and Fighter. Why he said "presently", I don't know. I'm still saying that my Thief theory is unlikely, but I believe that it is possible.
Episode 301 is pretty good evidence regarding Fighter's vocabulary changing, but I still can't see him going on about abstract theories regarding fate and history. Sure, he believes that he's a destined warrior and all that jazz, but Mr. Red says "there is no grand story to history. Things just happen. It's the act of looking back on it that imposes a sense of narrative." IMHO, those are more RM-esque lines. But, who knows? Fighter may face some serious character development before the end. As it stands now, I feel that RM is most likely to be Mr. Red, followed closely by Fighter, followed by my dark-horse, Thief. |
