No. That's silly. You're misconstruing what FANservice is. Fans will, by a huge margin have liked Mordin. A lot. Cutting him from the game is a disservice. But an understandable one if you're low on budget or something.
But to huge that budget. The time, resources and money involved to put a celebrity cameo in your game is dumb. It isn't Fanservice by any means because I whole heartedly believe no fan who wasn't going to buy the game or wasn't excited or Anything of the sort will be very happy to hear about this.

You may be able to justify it with number crunching, but antagonists are more than numbers. Having a reaper killed by a thresher maw, a foe that is regularly killed in the games on foot, diminishes the Reapers as a narrative force.

personally I just cared about choice. This is a video game, you dont have to choose between allowing sex with anything that moves or romantic relationships. I say if I want to play a shepard that cant keep it in his or her pants that I should, but if I want to play one that wants romance and a loving monogamy I should get that too.

Well I wanted the choice to attend Mordin's one man musical show.
But I guess my money didn't matter as much as Aero's money. My hours in ME1 and ME2 didn't matter as much as his. Which is why we get Chobot instead of Mordin.

I just don't even understand how the G4 cameo becomes an option in the first place.
Like if you have enough time to do that, Bioware, do anything at all whatsoever that is not that.

And whats this "instead of" why do people think there is some kind of Mordin fund that they cancelled. There is zero evidence that if Chobot wasn't hired that this money would bring back Mordin, there is no evidence that they ever planned to bring him back as a playable character, but that shouldn't be a shock because most of your ME1 crew wasn't in ME2 either. This isn't some binary system where to add one character another has to be dropped.
