Help?
Here's the deal:
After struggling for a topic on a research paper which is supposed to deal with Globalization, in particular Globalization in Southern California, I found myself stumped as to a topic. Finally I lighted upon something that I might be able to work with : Anime. This is not a topic that I know a lot about. Until recently I was pretty disparaging of it, and even now do not call myself really a fan of it, however it was the first workable topic that came to mind for a paper whose due date is looming uncomfortably close. I need a lot of help here on the research part. I have less time than I'd like to get this information, so I turn to the Forum for help. If you have information on any of this, please post links, leads or anything you have. Here's what I'm looking at to start: Popularization of Anime: WB and Disney • DBZ • Pokemon, WB. • Miyazaki and Disney • Speed Racer? • Others? Kill Bill influenced by Anime? Anything else that you can figure out to help me is also welcome. Please help me with this. You're my only hope. Edit: One more thing I remembered to look into: Fansubs. Edit 2: and another: Teen Titans, anime influence in American cartoons.

I have this thing where, while I wish you the best of luck in your research and what have you, I think it is silly and rather misplaced to attempt to get research-quality ideas out of a forum or its members.
If you have the time to be here, you have the time to go to the library or search periodicals, etc. Sorry if you find that a mean way to look at it.

Don't get sarcastic please. This is quite frankly the best idea I've had. And as for the liberary, I'm working on it. I've got to get a lot of material together. If you don't have anything constructive to post, please don't post at all.
Edit: Okay, synk's post may have been due to a misunderstanding. I just realized my initial post could be read differently than I intended it. I'm not asking the people of this forum to do research for me. But as I know that a good number of the people here like anime, and I've even seen people post links to articles about anime in the past, if you happen to have information lying on hand, bookmarked or something, I'm asking for your help in reducing the amount of time it takes for me to find said articles. This is not the only place and method I'm using for research, just one of the several paths I'm taking, asking help from those who know more about the subject than I.

Synk *does* have a point.
There should be a bunch of sites on the Net discussing on how Disney animators were influenced by OSamu Tezuka's big-eyed anime style, or was it the other way around? The regional specific thing you'll have to find on your own - hope you have access to a good, long list of microfilmed South Californian newspaper articles. |

Thanks Dante. Even the inclusion of the names of Anime Dirrectors and studios is helpful to me at this point. I'll look it up. As for the regional thing, yeah, I'm screwed on that aspect but I've got no choice but to do my best. Thanks again for the lead.

There are such sites as Lexis-Nexis and other portals that will lead to journals and articles published/republished with permission that would carry more weight than Billy Everyteen's website. Even so, a good, directed Google search [use good keywords] will likely turn up at least a few clues if not some real gems that may not be found in a library.

Oh hi! :D
|
Weeeeellll...I do have some things I found. Not sure if they help or not, but they're a good place to start.
This is an article on the Popularization of anime. Here's a site on anime information. And this site has some interviews and tidbits on the Disney Tokuma deal. Kill Bill might've been influenced by anime... >.> Hope that helps. Last edited by BlackMageGirl!; 06-06-2005 at 06:25 PM. |

like some people say, when in doubt, wikipedia it.
so here is the site wikipedia information on anime: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime it MIGHT help you on the info about anime. im sorry, but i dont really want to read THAT big of an article. so, that is why i am saying this link might help. it does talk about different animes and some influences and the whole "big eyes" thing.. i know that for sure oh yah, here is a paragraph from the wiki article which talks about possible anime influencing western movies: Production of anime: Osamu Tezuka directed the first fictional anime television series Astro Boy and pioneered many conventions of the Japanese style of animation. He is also known for his highly acclaimed work in independent animation. His iconic work Kimba the White Lion may have been an influence on Disney's The Lion King. (back to me speaking) youll find lots of references to animes that you probably have heard of and will get to know the directors and stuff from this article too! Domo-arigato for your assistance. The paper is finished, and your links were definitely helpful.
