OMG Two-faced kat! o_OO_o

A newborn kitten recently entered the world with two faces and, hopefully, at least nine lives. Gemini was born Sunday with two mouths, two tongues, two noses and four eyes.


"I kind of feel sorry for her, because I can't know for a fact if she's going to live or die," its owner, Lee Bluetear of Glide, told the (Roseburg) News-Review. "If she makes it, she should be a perfectly normal and healthy cat. Other than having two faces."


Roseburg veterinarian Alan Ross, who examined the kitten on Tuesday, said he can't estimate the kitten's life span. He said when he first saw the kitten, he wouldn't have given her more than a 10 percent chance of survival.


"With the three of our veterinarians here, we have a combined total of 50 years of experience," Ross said. "We have never seen anything like this."


Bluetear, 40, said Gemini is much stronger and drinking more milk than in its first few days. Ross said that if the kitten does survive, it might need surgery to remove the extra tissue in between its two mouths.


Bluetear has been breeding different kinds of animals, starting with dogs, since 1980. Roughly three years ago, she discovered a litter of smaller than normal kittens she calls "miniature cats."


She now has plans to market the miniature cats, which grow to about 4 pounds, on the Internet.


Gemini was born to a miniature mother and a full-size father.


"Everybody is totally amazed that this thing exists," Bluetear said.

Poor cat, it can't even "turn the other cheek".

But seriously, I truly feel sorry for that thing. Imagine how annoying that has to be. To have a face protruding from your face. And we're not even talking two-headed. This is two-faced. It doesn't have two seperate brains or persons controlling them. It's one being with two faces. How does it control both faces, or noses, or all four eyes. Either this is one seriously debilitated kitty, or we're looking at Wonder Cat.

Poor kitty.... I wondere if he'll live... if he does... I WANT ONE.... Having a cat with 2 faces would be cool.... it could see better, hear better, smell better, and eat more... now that's cool... this could be a whole new breed of animeal..... EVERYONE would want one... if it works of course....

I thought of that from the thread title alone. If they ever make a Transmetropolitan movie they can save a lot on CGI if she lives.

Aaaanyway. Interesting, that. I suppose it depends on whether that second face is just an appendage or properly connected to her nervous system. I'm guessing the first. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't think any being would just grow a second face through whatever kind of mutation. It's more likely one kitty embryo absorbed the other in the womb (which does happen), only not completely. Not that I'm an expert, mind you.

Anyway, if she can't control it she should be fine for the most part. If she can, things might get complicated.

Yikes. Just... yikes.

I do feel sorry for the kitten. Whether connected to it's nervous system or not, having the extra face could in no way be any type of boon to it's existence. Assuming it lives to reach adulthood, I wonder what possible accomidations, including surgery, such an animal would need?
