BART officer to stand trial for murder.
Here's the last thread, and the one before that.
Johannes Mehserle has been ordered to stand trial for murder in the death of Oscar Grant. The judge in the preliminary hearing, C. Don Clay, stated "There's no doubt in my mind... that Mr. Mehserle intended to shoot Oscar Grant with a gun and not a Taser." Considering how controversial the case is, it may need to be moved out of county. Personally, I think whatever it takes to get a solid trial. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...MNRA18125K.DTL http://www.mercurynews.com/columns/ci_12555540 |

This is honestly a relief. These people are the police, not judge, jury, and executioner. The guy committed an execution and he deserves to be locked away for it.

I'm actually surprised - I figured he was going to walk for it.

Well it's about time they decided they'd do the right thing.
And honestly Oakland is really bad with this so he is the, you know, thing in the bible where they pile the shit on that one animal and it gets sacrificed and everyone else is free to go sin some more?

Odjn: I think the word you want is "scapegoat". That said, I'm not so sure that word is quite right in this context, because I think the traditional goat was supposed to be, well, pure (by the particular standards of the time) before it had the community's iniquity symbolically heaped on it; whereas the details of this case, it appears, suggest very strongly that Mr. Mehserle did more or less exactly what he's accused of doing. Perhaps "making an example of" would be a bit better?

Maybe it was just me, but I'm pretty sure I read that he was charged with murder like, less than a week after we had an explosive discussion thread about it.
