But especially the Scarecrow, everything before and after that sounds more like generic metal to me.

Also: Epica and The Black Halo by Kamelot are concept albums loosely based on Goethe's Faust.

This is also where I point out that most albums by one of my favorite bands, Opeth, stick to a theme throughout, so yeah. Concept albums.

All of the above lean more towards metal than rock, so if you don't like that it's a shame you can't enjoy those albums like I do.

Also Blind Guardians Nightfall in Middle Earth. Basically the Silmarillion in wonderous, rocking musical form.

EDIT; Also once again it appears that Wiki is your friend. Though that page covers all genres, not just metal and rock.
