Uh, no it didn't. This is plenty legal, in that the makers decided to distribute it this way, Not everything on Bittorrent is illegal. WoW and Ubuntu both distribute patches via torrents, I believe.

BitTorrent is a program that lets you download torrents. It could be used for legal or illegal downloads.

What is the movie about? For this to be so revolutionary it has to also be good enough to get people to download it.

ANOTHER EDIT: Seems like a spy drama/thriller. Sounds pretty good.

actually this is nothing new, Indie studios of all art forms have used torrenting for years since they lack the resources for more conventional distribution.

I went to a concert last night and totally pirated the EP the opening band was giving away.

A C-List (maybe) 'star' put some money into a knockoff "Enemy Mine IN COLD WAR" movie in 2009 and wants people to see it since he hasn't done anything recently. Revolutionary it aint.

I'm just waiting for every also-ran at Sundance, Cannes, Toronto, etc. film festival to realize that they aren't going to win the Little Miss Sunshine lottery and just release their films to the wild instead of waiting years for IFC to maybe pick up the rights years later.

A good chunk of them travel the festival circuit which must be reasonably lucrative, particularly anyone who has been at Cannes which ensures you have at least some money behind you and also yuo have name-checking which guarantees you'll sell a lot of tickets at festivals . They come all the way to the ends of earth so must be worth it

No. The point of a film festival is to show your film to a distributor/someone who will get your film out there, or at the very least to someone who will give you more money to make more movies.

EDIT: I mean, that's what filmmakers get from them. Actual attendees are there to see the movies.
