[STAR WARS] the Fith/Synk DS9 Netflix Party Thread / Sing Along at Vic's!
Man this show owns so hard, it is just the best.
EDIT: I actually really like the first season because it's still pretty TNG-ish but like a million times better. EDIT: literally misspelled my own internet name, we are off to a ballin' start here. EDIT: Avery Brooks is just so angry all the time.

I still don't like the Grand Nagass (sp?). I hate that guy's voice.
I had a problem getting into it initially. I think it may actually be a side effect of watching it again since it was originally on -- I already know the characters and get annoyed with the slow [likely necessary] pace as we get to know them all. And the whole "lol Emissary" junk wasn't to my liking until it got fleshed out more.
As much as Roddenberry might've spun in his grave about a war in a Star Trek series, all the opportunities it provided to bring in Klingon, Romulan, and Cardassian story elements are aces in my book. I remember being very happy that O'Brien was a main character. I own TNG, and going through that series he's actually not in it as much as my younger self believed -- well, they didn't have to transport all that often, and La Forge was the Chief Engineer, so... Still, I really like Colm Meany and was glad that the Chief was moved to DS9. I didn't like Ferengi until I saw Quark. FFFFF Dukat, that sneaky bastard.

The grand nagus is the best because he knows you hate him and he doesn't care and then Quark's mom seduces him into LIBERAL SOCIAL DEMOCRACY and Quark gets to do the fucking THE LINE MUST BE DRAWN HERE speech which is just fucking amazing.
I love how like, every single time he's almost tricked you into liking him, he goes and does some shit where it's like, OH WAYT, THAT'S RIGHT, HE IS FFFFFFUCKS EVIL HOLY SHITCHRIST. EDIT: see, if I could edit my own thread titles, I could totally wait till this thread hits like page 6, then edit the title to read "Party Thread / Sing Along at Vic's", and that would just... that would just be fantastic EDIT: Look at this shit, just look at how fantastic this is

They are BFFs.
So how many times does Worf single-handedly save the Klingon Empire? Like at least a dozen.
Also yes Quark's speech about the status of his homeworld is great. Another great moment? Julian and O'Brien, after having been shot inside Sloan's head, having their talk. "I'm just saying, maybe you like me a bit more, that's all." edit: Yes! Vic is great. He's even better than just a cool guy 'cause he is a hologram who know's he's a hologram and tells it like it is. None of this "trying to escape the holodek" nonsense. Just total class.

He is a PROFESSIONAL.
EDIT: you know you could like never make DS9 now because Kira is straight up a terrorist and the show is totes cool with that.

I haven't watched DS9 in ages but I always thought the best thing Bashir/Obrien friendship. It was one of few tv friendships where I was like "Yep, these dudes are actually friends". They were just shown hanging out and joking around and knew each others foibles rather than just going "these six people are so wacky and hang out, they must like each other... look its in the title!"

Throw in the fact it's the first Trek series that shows any hint of a relationship between the same sex...
And hey, that one episode where the mirror universe actually crossed over into our's...

I'm still running through TNG but DS9 is next on my list to watch. Still trying to decide whether to skip Voyager entirely.

The problem with Voyager is that it has some absolute gems buried in all the mediocrity that it would be a shame to miss, but then you have to sit through all the mediocre episodes to really get them.
Rule of thumb, though, is that most two-part Voyager episodes are really good.

wherein Ensign Kim dies a million times
Yes, Voyager does have some good episodes among its full seven seasons. There is a lot of info about the Borg fleshed out throughout, and despite being pulled in for eye candy the Seven of Nine character serves as a great means to further explore the notions of humanity and the characteristics of the crew members. The Doctor is pretty awesome, too.
I tend to skip Kess, Chakotay, and Kazon episodes, but *shrug*.
