Shooter on rampage in Moncton, Canada

A manhunt is continuing this morning in Moncton after three Mounties were killed and two others wounded by a shooter Wednesday evening.

Police said the the shooter, identified as 24-year-old Justin Bourque was spotted on Thursday but that they were unable to apprehend him. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Bourque, wearing army camouflage, was reportedly spotted carrying multiple weapons including high-powered rifles, a crossbow, and knife.

“We know very little about this man. We know he has high-powered firearms,” said Marlene Snowman, head of the Codaic Regional RCMP.
"He had no police record."

The innocuous little town of Moncton, in the quaint little province of New Brunswick on Canada's eastern coast, is more or less shut down right now, with what seems to be an anti-police/anti-state/I don't know shooter on the loose.

Details are still sparse and the shooter is still at large. I mention anti-police only because this shooter has so far only seemed to target police officers. His supposed social network pages were heavy with postings on gun liberty, anti-police, and anti-surveillance state sentiment. He certainly has the means and opportunity to target civilians, since these shootings occurred in neighbourhoods, but as far as we know so far he hasn't.

On my own political opinion I know that this is just the simmering pot of our ill society boiling over a little bit. But on a human level, there are fathers and brothers not coming home to their families ever again, there are dozens of others putting their lives on the line, and this young man (shooter) will probably also die (or if caught, his life will still end). This saddens me.

On a personal note, half of my family lives in New Brunswick, with some in Moncton. I haven't been in contact yet and I assume no news is good news, but hoping for their safety.

Moncton resident Michelle Thibodeau described to CBC News early Friday how she watched as suspected shooter Justin Bourque surrendered to police, putting his hands up and saying, "I'm done."

Thibodeau said Emergency Response Team (ERT) trucks and police cars had been driving slowly along her street, Mecca Drive, all evening. Then suddenly, one ERT vehicle stopped and unloaded several officers, who moved into her backyard, she said.

Bourque, whom police allege shot and killed three Mounties and injured two others, emerged from a patch of trees at the bottom of the yard, she said.

So far there is no motive. The names of the slain RCMP (Mountie) officers were released. One of the injured is out of hospital and the other will recover as well.

These are less common on Canada as far as the news would lead me believe... i truly hope this ends soon and well (at least as much as possible, cosnidering 3 already lost their lives...), it always sunks my heart a bit when that stuff starts happening and further down with the media-political meltdown that will soon follow this...

On a side note, hope your family is all well Azi. Try to get some word when you can, if police is trying to control the town to get this guy, they could try to monitor or control communications in and/or out of there to further hinder him or track him down

Apparently there was a shooting on a Seattle college campus today, too. Two suspects arrested, last I heard, at least four injured, possibly more.

With regards to that, I'm seeing One dead, three injured, and it was just one shooter.

Yep, he was caught. No known motive so far. But he was captured alive, so I imagine we'll have weeks, months, and years of that to come. I updated the OP.
