I support Choice 3 for two reasons:
1. Choice 2 sounds like it would result with being ambushed. Choice 3 sounds like it will result in us ambushing someone. 2. Climbing to the roof could cause some of our less agile comrades to fall to their deaths, therefore removing dead weight.

Vote: Choice 3
Once we get on top of the temple, we can have a good look around us and assess the situation. In case we do get attacked again, it's a great place to defend, giving us mages a chance to rain fiery death & destruction upon incoming foes. Besides, it's a temple. There can be just about anything on top. Just as the purpley glow can be the magical aura of a very big fuck-off-i'm-going-to-eat-your-souls-and-spit-you-out beast.

Vote: Choice 3 because we can do Choice 2 afterwards. Also, shoving people off roofs is fun.
