I'm glad that Fifth understands what "meme" means; and, yes, my issue is that he uses it in the "Picture with text on it, etc." sense, as opposed to the self-replicating idea sense.

It's all about wording, man. Yeah, liking MLP is a meme. So is liking running water.

The thing that aggravates me most about this sentence isn't the fact that a Wired article may be "making us look like we're autistic," but rather the fact that Rob apparently thinks it's offensive to "look autistic."

Like autistic people are signs of the Great Scourge or something.

I'm high-functioning Asperger's and was diagnosed as Aspie until I was about 14, at which point I was re-categorized as generic "ASD" something because I was no longer Asperger's but not quite normal either, in some endless void between the possibilities.

And I hated myself for some time due to this association.
But then I met some Asperger's kids that were "more severe" down the spectrum or some crap and interacted with them.
Most of them were pretty damn cool dudes (and dudettes I'd presume but 95%+ of my time was spent with guys.)

I think just about the worst thing you could do in regards to Asperger's / Autistic people is to tell them how horribly different and inferior they are and just how much you'd loathe to be associated with them. That or pity. Or both.

Sorry that I don't want to be told that I have a social disorder because I like a TV show, Snake!

(Seriously you know that thing where you take everything you disagree with and turn it into a personal attack on you? Stop doing that.)

I dunno, it's sort of true what he said, in the not taking it as an attack on him way.

Like, the article only really said some things saying that the fandom were sort of seen as odd, and to make the leap in logic to say, "This article is calling us autistic" is kind of insulting to autistic people.

Like, no where in the article did it say anything about autism, except for the one dude who had it, who said that he watched the show. That didn't say that everyone who watches it is autistic. The only thing that could be construed as insulting was that it seems weird that people who aren't little girls watch it, and also the comments.

Thank you for letting me be better, NPF.

Bob was referencing a comment from Equestria Daily that iirc was quoting something somebody said on a different site about those who watch MLP.

It's a rather ludicrous conclusion to reach, and I don't particularly care for the fact that not only did somebody reach this conclusion, but there were others who agreed with him.

Okay, but Solid Snake wasn't aware of that, and although he made his point poorly, based on the information he had he was in the right.

Mayhaps he shouldn't have leapt to conclusions quite so quickly. "Where were MLP fans compared to autistic people" might have been a good starting point, rather than jumping immediately to "I think just about the worst thing you could do in regards to Asperger's / Autistic people is to tell them how horribly different and inferior they are" (which Bob didn't actually say nor imply).

But it's kind of true. Bob jumps in and says, "Man, I hate that this thing makes MLP fans look like a bunch of autistic people". The only thing in the article that could be construed as negative was sort of saying how MLP fans seem weird to other people, so it is a pretty fair link to draw is that Bob was saying that autistic people are weird, without knowing about the fact that he was referencing someone else.

I didn't turn this into a personal attack on me; I turned it into an attack on modern society's stigmatization of autism, a disorder I don't even technically really have.

I apologize for being offended at something you'd prefer me not to find offensive Fenris and I'm sure if I knew the full context I probably wouldn't have been offended, but I don't feel the slightest bit bad about being offended based on what I did read in what was posted here.
Also this is kind of what I meant earlier way back when I defended NonCon over the 'past issues' thing, like how every time I'm offended now it's automatically because I'm playing the role of the victim just because that's my "reputation."
