Bending space

Penn nodded, and patted his dwarven friend on the back. "I agree we should leave as soon as possible, but a few hours rest would do us more good than any magic we could muster. The monsters on our trail have to rest at some point to so I think we can spare at least a few hours. Take a rest my steadfast friend." Then Penn blinked, suddenly realizing where he was.
"Um Loki." Penn began very confused. "How'd you get into the tree?" **** **** **** Five hours later Penn awoke everyone else. Getting them ready to travel and setting everyone up with a semblance of breakfast rations. He put a little healing energy into his water to stave off the need for sleep. Unfurling the map again he traced the mental image he had burned into his head of their projected route. Judging from the age of the map however it was possible they would run into unexpected blockages. Lands changed over the years and doubtless there was a new river or even worse, a bog in their way.

Torin had a troubled sleep the night before they met with Orson. He didn't bother to argue with Iarann since the dwarf would probably follow through with his threats/promises. Yet even in his dreams Torin continued to see the face of the "Venurian" they encountered. The words he spoke consumed his thoughts. "Only Venurians met their end by my hands... I am no Venurian, fools...You'll never take it while I still stand, traitors!" He knew a spy would say anything to save their own life, but this seemed... different. In the end he had given up trying to solve this mystery and once the two mercenaries were awake, they left the inn and made their way back to the Swordforger Estate.
Midgaard seemed to be in the same state it had been when they left; an unsteady calm with the occasional panicked rush of a messenger or soldiers off to stall the advancing army. Things were getting worse, and Torin couldn't shake the feeling that Orson hadn't told them something. Why wouldn't the dwarf report to Lord Hebridean if he knew there was a spy within the city, especially a spy that managed to kill two of Orson's men, and managed to give Iarann and himself a hard time. Unless the spy wasn't a spy, and this crystal isn't what we're being told it is, Torin thought. "Iarann..." Torin began, but he was cut off before he could continue his thought. "I already told ya boy, let's hand in the jewel an' worry 'bout it later. Don't get in the way of ma gold." "How do we know that this jewel is actually a scrying jewel? Why would that spy say those things? Why was he staring at the jewel in his last moments? Why wouldn't Orson contact the Lord if he knew there was a dangerous spy within the city? There are too many unanswered questions here." "Tha's what it's like bein' a mercenary lad, so ya better get used to it and shut yer trap cos we're here." Torin stopped infront of the Swordforger Estate's main door while Iarann knocked loudly. Well good thing I'm still holding on to the jewel, Torin thought to himself. Some questions are going to be answered before anyone gets what they want. |
