Yeah, but what other character would realistically piss on Kefka's leg in the final battle?

Answer that one smarty McBarrel pants.

Mainly, his starting stats are attrociously op, and with the correct application of esper buffs, he can outstrip even sabin in pure strength, making his physical specials in various rage forms obscenely powerful, and not dependent on any complex button presses or power up timers. He effectively becomes a "set it and forget it" killing machine.

Yes but he can't really match the ridiculousness of 4 Ultima a turn for 6 mp, or 8 attacks in the high thousands, most of which can pearl or holy on their target.
And it takes far longer to set him up then to set up the above for example.

If pisses on Kefka's leg, I'm all in though.

No, not really. Not at all.

...Well, first, let's set aside the fact that you cannot cast 4 Ultimas per turn. You cast one Ultima, then cast Quick, then cast Ultima twice more.

ANYway, that is what you'd call "endgame". You have to go through dungeons and level up and get espers and all that crap to achieve those things.

You need to actually get Ultima, teach it to someone, get the Economizer, charge through that bastard Cult of Kefka tower to get the Thamasa Gem (or GemBox, or whatever), and then you can make with the mass Ultimas.

Or you can get the Genji Glove, get the Master's Scroll in that bastard lost kingdom place underground, get two Lightbringers, and do that for x8 (reduced damage) attacks.

With Gau, it's a one-step process. Leap a Cloudwraith and you have free Flares. Leap Io and you get the awesome Flare Star (like Merton, only it's one sided and does fixed damage based on level). Leap a Behemoth and you get Meteor.

Oh, and did I mention that Gau is Strago's best friend? Any Lore'able ability Gau uses in Strago's sight, is learned by the old man.

In short, Gau is so great because he can become a nigh-invincible juggernaut with a modest economy of effort.

Oh yes it's only 3 cause yuo can only quicken once per turn. It's been a while since I played.
And I found all that shit fun. Running around the Veldt I just found boring. And having to wait for the right enemy wasn't exciting for me. And the veldt was boring!
The Tower of Kefka was good fun. And fighting those crazy dinosaurs to get the economiser was the hardest challenge in a not originally very hard game (except when people do crrrrraaazzzzy challenges).
But I guess it would be boring for some people.
I still maintain the veldt was silly

So question:
This thread has been going on for about 12 pages, have you actually started the game?

Also, I recommend the name "Gauss" for Gau.

If this is a joke, it went over my head. Did you read the thread at all?
I suppose you meant it as a commentary on all the other posts in the thread... but that happens in LPs, it seems. *shrug*

Am I the only one who uses the posts per page setting? I've got it set to 40/page, which makes this thread 4 pages.

I'm pretty sure that he's started the game, unless there's some point before which the game isn't considered to have begun?

It's possible that he assumed that gameplay would be edited into the first post, when in fact it is added to new posts.

...I've had about 4 updates already...

Sorry. I don't mean to be rude. But just skim over some of the other pages in the thread (such as the first?) and you should run into some pictures.

Good name suggestions everyone. Like I said, I'm gonna be busy as hell for the next 2 weeks or so (exams, trips, graduation) but I'll try to work on updates during study breaks. Hopefully it doesn't end up feeling disjointed.

Beef seems to be the current favourite for Sabin. Unless that changes, I'll update next time with that name.

EDIT: Oh damn ninja'd twice. Anyway, I'll see what I can do about finding a dedicated hosting area for this as well for ease of reading. When that happens all old pictures will also have their sizes increased.
