What are you talking about? Fawkes got it for me without a second thought, then team up with me after I escaped the enclave, and sporting an awesome laser gattling gun to boot. I think his willingness is based on karma level, mine was neutral.

Oh and a question for the others that have played it. Is there any trick to using the mezzotron or is it totally random?

Actually, the ending just kind of blows all around. There's apparently quite a lot of fan uproar over it, because Bethesda fucked that part up about as much as they possibly could have.

oh you mean why not have him fix everything since he can take the radiation. I found it really odd that he followed me inside honestly. And I dont get why you had to sacrifice yourself radiation wasn't that much

I don't get why I couldn't just drill the door with my lasrifle to get back out. It's not like a 2-inch thick glass door is going to stop radiation, huh?

But yeah, I didn't like the ending either.

The problem with the ending was that it was a fairly decent, traditional ending for most RPGs, but the Fallout series always circumvented traditional endings, and the beauty of Fallout's approach was the concept that there were as many potential endings to the story as there were ways to roleplay your character. Resolution was provided for nearly every decision you made about nearly every village on the map. Every choice mattered, and every minor quest seemed to have a payoff.

Whereas in Fallout 3 the pervasive feeling is pretty much "why'd you even bother with all those subquests, because none of them mattered anyway, you just should have gone from straight from point A to point B and finished the damn thing. And even if you choose to live, you receive absolutely no details as to what your life is going to be like, so there's really no point in choosing to live. And your morality decisions are summed up in a single, irrelevant sentence! What's the point of being good or evil if the true ending plays out the same damned way?

Heck you can skip many required missions. My first playthrough I never even went to GNR. It was rather unrealistic for them to not only place it in a raider/super mutant infested area, but also have you go through what amounts to a maze to even get near it. You should not make the second place you are supposed to go, one of the most difficult places to get to
