Three. Once was a cop thinking I had tried to ditch a beer bottle upon spotting him (it was a jones soda and I set it in the recycling); Once to arrest my at the time girlfriend for assault, called by a friend on my behalf; and once with a warrant for arrest on my name but different age, for soliciting concert tickets.

Once when I got arrested for underage consumption at my job in high school. Once when I got pulled over while walking to a gas station for a midnight snack. Once when they were called on a party I was at. And then like a couple times I got pulled over?

I just feel the need to throw out a couple of points here.
1. Regardless of Brown's record, nothing he did here was a capital offense so the other "evidence" being brought up is moot point. Those defending Wilson have failed to bring anything to the table that justifies execution. 2. Snake has highlighted very clear attempts by the prosecution to coddle Wilson. If a DA wants an indictment, the DA is going to get an indictment. 3. Statistics of police violence towards black people, men in particular, are widely available. In a situation like this where every procedure is botched, how can you not assume race is the primary factor? 4. Even when it comes to other, non-racial, minority groups, the numbers of slayings against those groups are primarily racial minorities. Institutionalized genocide is the appropriate label here. I have an opportunity to go up to Ferguson to join in the demonstrations with other activists from my area. I wasn't planning on going because the voting for our anti-discrimination ordinance starts next week so our campaign is about to hit its most hectic point but between shit I've read here, on Facebook, and everywhere else, I'm strongly considering saying "fuck the campaign" and heading up there. I've never had issues with cops just being present where I am but it was well established during a recent protest we had here for Ferguson that the sicker core is far more visible once you're in jail. I also have the benefit of passing privilege and Fayetteville is a pretty damned progressive city, especially for being in Arkansas, so my experiences are certainly not the experiences of people everywhere else.

That's why I used quotation marks, I don't believe it myself but the story is out there and influencing people's perspectives :/ The deflection attempts are atrocious and they boil my blood. I also love how people are crying out against the riots when they can't make a valid point about the shooting. They're calling them out for barbarism when barbarism is what started this whole thing. There are multiple theories about what's causing the riots from KKK agitation to out-of-towners taking advantage of the unrest, but no one who supports the ruling wants to acknowledge that this isn't a singular incident. This is a culmination of centuries of abuse and, if the people of Ferguson are doing this on their own accord, I can sympathize. No, I don't think rioting is the answer, but if someone I cared about was gunned down in the street, I'd be hard pressed not to flip a car or two and that's considering that I'm not as affected (read: very much still affected) by this flavor of oppression as racial minorities are.
