Hey, remember when Ichigo got Mugetsu, and Tensa Zangetsu changed? Perhaps this is Zangetsu's corresponding shikai adjustment.
The chain is now where the hilt wrap used to be, the sword has an actual hilt now (still no guard, but come on, that's Ichigo's personality coming out in the sword. Remember that Zanpakutou change according to the spirit energy and personality of the wielder (with Hisagi being an odd duck of sorts... perhaps he really does deep down enjoy killing)). The blade itself, other than the slight change in shape, still resembles Zangetsu. All in all, I'm more than confident that Ichigo's zanpakutou is still the old man. Whether or not his Hollow is still part of the equation remains to be seen.

Mostly I like the part where Ginjou is all messed up and bleeding and is like "Well you got a little stronger but it won't change anything" and Ichigo is like "Bitch that was a muscle spasm not an attack. Now this is an attack." All of this of course with no sign of Bankai which makes me wonder about the future.

I don't think he can use his Bankai anymore. I'm pretty sure Zangetsu is still dead.

But Getsuga Tenshou was explicitly Zangetsu's Shikai power.

Have we actually seen anything that suggests Zangetsu is dead other than "Well his sword looks different"?

Right but didn't he master and gain those powers for himself to use? So it's safe to say that even though he still has getsuga, Zangetsu is still gone, most likely meaning no more Bankai.
Unless they explain that Zangetsu was somehow revived when Ichigo's Raitsu got a good size jump start.
