Reload is their best. I really fail to see what is wrong with it.

Reload was far from their best.
EDIT- Even by their own admission, it's the songs that weren't good enough to be on Load. Also, I second Dethklok

As for Metal, and this is may be brderline for you, but I've always liked Tool. Another choice I like is Body Count, a heavy metal group founded by Ice T, made infamous for thier controversial protest song "Cop Killer".

Uh, what's screamo to you? Everyone I know has a diferent definition.
To me, screamo is like... early Funeral for a Friend, or Finch, or like From First to Last, or kind of Atreyu. Anything generally emo with screaming. Hence scream+emo = screamo. But a lot of people use it as anything with screaming vocals, which I would go so far to say encompasses growls as well. So, if it's the former, the emo+screams, then I would suggest The Human Abstract, definately one of my favorite bands. If its the latter, anything with screaming vocals, check out Mercenary's The Hours That Remain. It's a fuckin' sweet album. Some good Prog-semideath is Opeth, which I think you might like despite your criteria, if you haven't already listened. |

I'm not much of a metal aficionado, but I would recommend Blind Guardian if you haven't listened to them yet.

Whenever I think Ride the Lightning, instead of thinking of metallica, I think forward, down, back, forward, Hard Slash, "Raidu za Lighteneing!"
Anyway. Avoid Slipknot like the plague that they no doubt are. Killswitch Engage is pretty awesome, and I second pretty much everything that's been said in the thread so far.

Slipknot isn't even metal, so yeah.
Blind Guardian... they're sometimes metal, but sometimes they're kind of... well... mideval-style music. As long as you know what you're getting into though, Blind Guardian is awesome.

I happen to like Arch Enemy's Anthems of Rebellion album, but that might be a tad over into the Death Metal scene. Also In Flames rocks a whole bunch.
