Gonna go ahead and echo what a couple other people said and say if you're unsure, just taking some classes at a college could help you find something to pique your interest. Even if you don't know for sure when you get done with your civil service, just sign up anyway and take things that look interesting; going into college without a clear plan isn't always a huge deal.

I don't know much about the EU's study abroad program; what kind of options would you have in other countries that you couldn't in Finland?

My view is, you want to figure out what to do, and you're living in a privileged socialistic society that lets you do just that. It's a serious task. Dedicate at least a year to it. Three months if you're prodigiously gifted in introspection. It takes a lot of time to figure out what you really want - as opposed to what you think you want.

The step after you find out what you MIGHT like to do is research what your path opens up to you, for me I'm taking EMT/Fire Safety/Pyrotechnics, so I'm speaking to firefighters (both domestic, forest and smokejump) pyrotechs, and first response meds as those are the main branches, ask your branches about what sub-branches you can work into later as well, and what your schooling ACTUALLY gives you... for instance mine covers everything from saving people's lives to picking locks, yours might give you a greater understanding of diplomatic situations, ect.

Even if all else fails, you still walk away with you, so my advice would be to concentrate on you more than the job.

I'm not sure, but I've understood it in way that I could basically apply everywhere inside of EU though there might be language skills tests to check if I can actually study, because language barrier will pretty much kill your studies.
But EU has many, many student programs, because EU will need people who get along with different cultures inside of EU in future (and in present too), and I'm quite sure it would only be matter of paperwork to get somewhere else to study, but like I said language barrier might be killer if I actually want to be something.

And I will note that civil service, if it's correct term, in Finland lasts 362 days and this article may give you guys hint what kind thing it's.

i think its probably weirder to graduate high school and know exactly what you want to do with the rest of your life then it is to be totally clueless.

but yeah, what pretty much everyone else has said, just take random classes that you think might be interesting. I did that and found out none of it was for me, which is why im saving money to go to culinary school now, my true life passion

And it's pretty dumb that people should know what they do with their lives. Giving young people responsibility about their life goals is nice, but they are still too young to know what to do.

No wonder that people aren't happy even when everything else goes alright.
