ok I'm not sure if this is a windows 7 issue or not, but see I am big into modding my games, and while I can download them into my new E drive I cant alter them (such as adding new files to a games directory). It either says I do not have write permission or that I do not have administrator permission. which makes no sense as there is only the default account even on this computer.
I mean I am the administrator, how can I not have "administrator permission"

and now steam isn't opening because somehow the drive got write protection now.
[edit] after trying alot of online solutions (including using command prompts that say its not write protected, and reformatting the drive) I have concluded that I am boned and need to return this HDD for a new one because I cannot find any possible solution for this. Worst of all is it might be a setting in windows thats the issue and not the drive, which means I'll have to wipe my entire system and start from scratch

It seems it is fixed now. I did every single possible solution, removed read only for volume, remove read only for the drive, reformated the drive, virus scans, fiddling with permission settings, restarting the computer multiple times throughout
so not sure what caused it or what fixed it. All I do know is that 7 hasn't been making a very good impression on me so far
