Default Merry Christmas!

In fairness to him, the actual advice he gave -- not to trust any links you don't know, that real-time protection often comes with a cost (though not always!), and that combofix can be a great tool if you know what you are doing -- is correct.

That he somehow feels there "has always been a firewall between broadband users and the internet" is troubling. Is the implication that Comcast, as an example of a broadband ISP, provides a firewall between its clients and the rest of the Internet, or inside its cable modem hardware? That sure works well, clearly. I don't see how it's a "scare tactic" to advise the use of a software/hardware/software+hardware solution of some kind that gives you more control over what kind of traffic is blocked, rejected, and so forth and control over which applications and utilities are allowed to make use of networking hardware in your computer.

I'll also grant that implying using Linux grants you freedom from danger was not good of me. Practically speaking, however, the simple point I meant behind that stands -- a significant portion of what you'll run into in a random clickjacking or malicious advertisement capitalizes on Windows-specific vulnerabilities.

Adblock is definitely a great suggestion. I do not recall why I didn't include it in that post.

*shrug*

Also not sure why he feels I have apparently blatantly misunderstood how networks work.

I'm all ears, if anyone has thoughts and gives a shit.

He's a self-aggrandizing keyboard warrior? I hope he at least cleaned the cheeto stains and asked his mom to get out of the basement before unleashing that screed.

That's how it felt to me anyway.
