However, my friend ran a strong magnet over a gameworks card and it changed the credit value on the card.

We had people trying this scam with electronic vouchers in a store I worked at. Regardless of how good the fraud attempt looked, there's always ways to check to see if that amount is legitimate. May I ask what type of card this 'gameworks' card is?

As Ryanderman pointed out, mythbusters pretty much determined that magnets can't fuck with magnetic strips on cards. I belive they even determined that the full force of the earths magnetic field, the most powerful natural magnet known to man, can't do shit to them.
Nor can an electric eel, apparantly.

They check their facts, so odds are, You didn't make it up, but you were wrong.
Mind you, hey also churn out their own Urban legends on their own time to keep the legends coming so they always have work. |

Here's a great one that nobody will probably have any idea what I'm talking about. XD
Actually, it's less of a legend than poor planning. When the original floppy version of Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos came out, there were several pieces of box art that depicted things impossible in the game. Namely, one of the cinematic screens was missing a character, the portrait for Paulson was radically different, there was a party composed of incompatible characters, and there was a spell called Vortex which was not included in the game. Virgin Interactive actually got so many complaints about those supposed screenshots that they came out with a new box. My dad still has the original.

No, the title is "Fact or Fiction?", not "Urban myths and legends."
