Ark was standing near the edge of the camp. Well, more sitting. Up in a tree.
He was back in the wild, and while it wasn't where he normally would be, it was still quite nice. "I feel I should point out that Cesia might be out ticket into Alba. If you've got the rightful heir to the enemy's throne who does not support a war they can use that as leverage to call it off. There's bound to be tons of people who remember Cesia from the palace, and they can verify it's her. No monarch can refuse a test to see if there's one that should be where he is, so we just need like her old nanny or something to check, and testify that it's her. If she vanishes people start wondering, etc. It's win win for us."

"Again I should point out a bunch of people in the castle are dead, not just the king. So let's assume that everone in the castle is in league with the new King. No way in hell will they recognize her claim. Face it he got the jump on you. Now you have to fight an uphill battle. There will be no easy victories here. Any evidence we have was horribly tainted by Mr. psycho weaponsmith, when he started killing knights."

"Right, Cid just killed anyone who wasn't corrupt with him, and nothing bad happened to him at all... And to do that, he would have had to kill more then half of the kingdom, which I doubt he could have done."

"No he just seemed to kill those who actually posed a threat to his position, which to be honest was only a few of the nobility. This isn't an egalitarian society, catboy. The people will follow the nobles, cause the nobles will turn them out from their lands if they don't, and the nobles seem to be following King Cid. He was elected by them unanimously."

"Cause the princess would have only talked to or been around nobles her entire castle life... We could get any of her care takers, teacher, a libarian, a cook, or the janitor, and be able to prove she is the real princess. So unless he had everyone in the castle slaughtered, then we have someone."

"You read alot don't you. Cause you talk a good game but you are woefully naive. First you'd have to find someone insane enough to put their life on the line to speak up. Then you'd have to keep them alive long enough to do any good. Now this isn't even considering that anyone will actually care. Let's say we go to all this trouble, and the people still decide they prefer Cid's leadership. Rightful leader or not, Cid own this country. You might as well cut your losses."

"You seem to think everyone will follow Cid blindly. One point you make if they will listen to Cid because he is leader, but if proven that Cesia is the princess, Cid will no longer be leader, since that country does not need a male leader, and rightfully it is her's. And I don't think they would prefer Cid's leadership over anyone elses. He is leading them into a war. No one likes war, and the only reason he is doing this war is for a small attempt of world conquest, which he could never do by the way. But for the people, the only reason they are accepting this war is because they think an Alban assassin killed their king. They don't need the land of Alba, for it has nothing which they require. And my guess is, when any of the guards are given a choice of attacking Cid or the princess, which actually would make her Queen if proven to be the real thing, the chances of Cid being attacked are higher then Cesia being attacked."

Gin laughed loud and hard "You really are naive. War is very profitable for the nobles. To long have they languished in peace. They wish for more power and more lands. Cid will give them that by driving the machine of war. Never underestimate the greed and avarice of the noble class. It doesn't matter if he has no claim to the throne. The army backs him, and she will never give them what they want. As long as war is profitable to the leaders of this nation, Cid will be untouchable. And I thought you were the intelligent one. It's time, catboy you got some practical experience. Books are well and good, but without practical application it's wasted knowledge."

Jude whacked them both on the head again.
"God, you two fight like a married couple, so do us all a favor and shut up, please. We'll deal with problems when we get to them, and I don't want any fancy pancy explanation why that won't work Gin..." Jude said. |
